This glass pyramid is located at the Louvre in Paris and has always been one of my favorite structures. It was designed by Chinese-American architect I. M. Pei, surrounded by three smaller pyramids, in the main courtyard. I think this is an incredible example of perspective in architecture because at different angles the sides of the pyramid grow and shrink and lead your eye to the point at the top.

The Moai statues from Easter Island stand about 13 feet high and weigh about 14 tons. Nobody knows for certain what the meaning of these statues are, but is is widely believed that they represent sports of ancestors, chiefs, or other high ranking males who held important history of the Rapa Nui of Easter Island. For a long time scientists had no idea what their purpose was or how they were moved to where they stand today, considering they weigh tons, However, evidence has recently been found that the Moai were central to the Rapa Nui's idea of fertility of soil and their presence stimulated food production. We also now know that they used sled-like contraptions to manually "walk" the statues to where they wanted them to be. I have always thought these statues were interesting because for a long time nobody knew much about them, and they also were so different from any statue I have ever seen. They are not necessarily beautiful or realistic but I think that is what makes them interesting.

This monument is the Tsitsernagapert Armenian Genocide memorial complex dedicated to the victims of the Armenian Genocide. It was built in 1967 in Yerevan, Armenia. The 12 slabs positioned in a circle represent the rebirth of Armenians and the 12 lost provinces in present-day Turkey. In the center there is an eternal flame dedicated to the victims. This monument has an impressive design as it is set on a hill dominating the landscape. From the inside of the monument the slabs inwardly guide ur eye to the center towards the sky. The perspective creates an illusion deepening the meaning of this structure.

Karnak in Egypt is a really interesting use of perspective to create an idea of not only importance, but also to transform the space into an almost other-wordly illusionistic experience. You see the perspective from the front, with the columns and outer buildings pointing inward towards the inner space that only the Pharaoh could enter for religious practices. It takes you through various rooms and experiences with different perspectives- only certain classes could enter certain spaces as well. Some rooms were in light, and some in shadow to create the illusion that you are entering a religious space.

The Washington Monument was designed by Robert Mills and then was eventually completed by Thomas Casey and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. This monument honors and memorializes George Washington at the center of the nation's capital in downtown Washington D.C. This monument was completed in two phases completed in the mid 1800's. I have friends that live in Washington D.C. and walking around there is amazing due to these large monuments throughout the city.

If you look at it from underwater, you can see all the people holding hands and creating a sense of community. If you view it from above, they converge into a harmonious circle, but you are unable to see the important details in the architecture.

1. I find this monument to be very interesting because of the evolution of the meaning behind this piece of architecture. The Eiffel Tower was originally created for the World’s fair in 1889 as a show of industrial power and to honor the French Revolution. However, the thing that I find most interesting is that although this tower was built in order to show power and honor a war that was so deadly it has evolved to become a symbol of love and romantics which is very different compared to its original meaning. I think that this tower is successful in its design and perspective due to the height that it has compared to everything else around it, making it stand out against every other piece of architecture.

This is a monument for antonio maceo, who fought for cuba's independence. This sits in the middle of a park in havana. I love the combination of materials used in this piece, because the base really emphasizes all the figures that are on top of it. I also love that the different tiers contain different significant scenes for the piece.

It can also serve as a reminder to remember past memories, but also the present and future. I think that sometimes people take time for granted so I wanted to make a monument to honor it instead.

I was able to spend a few months traveling throughout Croatia but Dubrovnik was the true hidden gem in my eyes. The city has multiple castles that are made with brick and stone by hand thousands and thousands of years ago. At night, due to the city being right on the water of the Adriatic Sea the stars shine incredibly bright in sky and moon lights up the whole city. For my piece I am honoring the architectural history Dubrovnik has as city.
