Idealism: only true reality is ideas because the world is always changing. focuses on holistic approach.

Realism: focuses on scientific method as a way of studying

Pragmatism: broad education is better than a narrow one, active philosophy, believe it is difficult to learn if things are broken down into separate distinct areas

Existentialism: emphasizes the creation of ideas that are relevant to each student, deals with each student as an individual who is unique
