The oldest seer in the desert says to the camel driver: “The secret is here in the present. If you pay attention to the present, you can improve upon it. And, if you improve on the present, what comes later will also be better.” (pg. 95). I appreciate the wisdom in this quote. It says to me, what’s important is happening today, not someday. I’m often worrying about the future. This line from The Alchemist reminds me that the future is being created by me, and all of us, right now. The seer is referring to paying attention to omens. I also believe in omens. I believe some things in life are like signs, letting us know if we are heading in a good or bad direction.

The quote I chose was "If you pay attention to the present, you can improve upon it... Forget about the future, and live each day according to the teachings, confident that God loves all his children." Page 104. The context of this quote was in a conversation between the camel driver (that Santiago spoke with) and the oldest seer. I think this is interesting because a lot of the time people do think about their future and wonder what they're fate is, but I like the idea that everything will just happen the way it is supposed to, which is how this quote connects to fate and destiny. Those will come how they are.

When the Alchemist is talking to Santiago about what would happen if he stayed at the oasis, he says, "Then, sometime during the fourth year, the omens will abandon you, because you've stopped listening to them... You'll spend the rest of your days knowing that you didn't pursue your Personal Legend, and that now it's too late". This quote stuck out to me because, I think it serves as a good message, to follow your dreams. If you give up on a dream and settle, you could find happiness elsewhere, but, you'll always have that thought of what could've been, what you're missing out on because you decided to give up. This made Santiago really think about the decision he was making, and how it would affect his future. It made him think about the love he and Fatima shared, and he realized that it would be strong enough to still be, after he returned.

I picked the quote: "When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it." (pg. 22)

This is a quote that is spoken by the old king, to Santiago when they first met. He explains that true desires come from the Soul of the World and that by following them, one aligns with the universe plan and he reassures Santiago that the universe will guide him as he pursues his dream of finding treasure in the Egyptian prymids.

This quote inspires me because it reinforces the idea that dreams have purpose. It suggests that the universe supports those who actively go to their goals and sometimes, I worry about whether my efforts will pay off or not, but this reminds me that if I fully commit to my path, I will find the help I need. It encourages me to trust the journey, even when obstacles arise.

on page 113 the alchemist says to the boy "courage is the quality most essential to understanding the language of the world." This quote really stuck out to me because it reminds me that without courage nobody would ever try anything new and life would be boring and meaningless. I think this applies to a lot of things in life and is good to think about when doing something out of your comfort because even if you go out and look stupid you take something out of that experience and now have more wisdom than you did going in.

the quote i chose was “The caravan and the desert speak the same language, and it’s for that reason that the desert allows the crossing. It’s going to test the caravan’s every step to see if it’s in time, and, if it is, we will make it to the oasis.” “If either of us had joined this caravan based only on personal courage, but without understanding that language, this journey would have been much more difficult.”(Pg. 79) this quote is when Santiago was speaking to the Englishman about how he should pay attention to the caravan not the books i picked this quote because it basically explains what omens are and how they direct you to your personal legend also how you have to pay attention to what's around you

The quote I choose was “When a person really desires something, All the universe conspires to help that person to realize his destiny.” This is said by the alchemist to the boy on page 116. I choose this because it seems like its almost fateful for the person on this journey of discovery to find what they are looking for. This is essentially because the heavens and earths move around for them. So, they can complete their mission and fulfil a personal destiny by doing so. Another reason I chose this is because I like the idea of everyone coming together and helping each other to fulfill their goals and help the along their journey. It is almost like they are completing a shared destiny.

The quote i like the most is also the one that's said the most that " when you want something the whole world conspires to help you achieve it ". I think this is a very important way of thinking, especially because if you believe it its more likely to work that way. I also chose it because whenever i feel discouraged around something I'm working towards that'd be a good thing to think because you also don't know until you try, and if you really try you could achieve many things. Even though this quote is said a lot, which can sometimes make it seem over done, its still quite important, moving and i like it.

One of my favorite quotes from The Alchemist about fate is:“When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”

This quote is on page 22. It shows that when someone has a true purpose in life, the world will help them reach it. Santiago learns that following his destiny means paying attention to omens and trusting the journey, even when things get hard. This quote resonates with me because it reminds me that fate isn’t just something that happens randomly it’s something we create by believing in ourselves. It’s easy to feel lost about the future, but this quote makes me think that if I truly want something and work for it, it can happen. It also helps me feel more confident in trusting the process of life, even when things don’t go as planned.

The quote I chose was when the camel driver on page 80 said, "We are afraid of losing what we have, whether it's our life or our possessions and property. But this fear evaporates when we understand that our life stories and the history of the world were written by the same hand." The context behind this quote was when the boy befriended the camel driver and the during one of the conversations between the boy and camel driver, the camel driver told his life story. This quote resonates with me because when stepping into a new world you're scared of what happens like when I was working an internship over the summer, I didn't know how it was going to go but after I understood that in my life I needed to get used to working and that helped that fear go away.

The future belongs to god, and it is only he who reveals it, under extraordinary circumstances", was said by the camel driver on page 104 and I like this quote a lot. I think that this is interesting cause he wants to guess at wat his future is gonna look like and a lot of people do that I feel. and to me this connects the destiny/fate..

When Fatima is talking to Santiago about the dreams that he had told her, she says, "You have told me about your dreams, about the old king and your treasure. And you've told me about omens. So now, I fear nothing, because it was those omens that brought you to me. And I am a part of your dream, a part of your Personal legend as you called it." Page 97. This quote stands out to me because if you follow your dreams, you will seek happiness in you. This shows Santiago that he is following his dreams , step by step. He found his part of his dream by following his dream when he met Fatima, but he still following his dream and achieve that dream.

The quote I chose is, "To realize ones destiny is a persons only real obligation." This quote is on page 22, from when the king is talking to Santiago about his personal legend. I really like this quote because it makes me feel really hopeful when I imagine myself having a goal I work towards every day, even if i don't know what that goal is. If I tell myself that even though what i am meant to do might not be clear right now, i can continue to work towards it by bettering myself and doing what i can to move forwards at all times. Even though the word destiny doesn't really apply in the same exact way, I think this quote reminds me of how I feel about my future.

The quote that I chose would be what the camel driver had said to Santiago, "We are afraid of losing what we have, whether it's our life or possessions and property. But this fear evaporates when we understand that our life stories and the history of the world were written by the same hand." (pg. 76). The camel driver had told this to Santiago while telling him about his own life and experiences, during their journey through the desert. I chose this quote because it is the one that resonated with me the most. It shows how death is inevitable, and it doesn't matter where or when or what you are, be it possessions or life, it is just something that happens. So this quote is to say that you must do what you can in the present, and don't worry too much about a future that isn't guaranteed.

My quote is on page 123-124, when the Alchemist is talking about Fatima and Santiago's fate with her. He says, "During the third year, the omens will continue to speak of your treasure and your Personal Legend. You'll walk around, night after night, at the oasis, and Fatima will be unhappy because she'll feel it was she who interrupted your quest. But you will love her, and she'll return your love. You'll remember that she never asked you to stay, because a woman of the desert knows that she must await her man. So you won't blame her. But many times you'll walk the sand of the desert, thinking that maybe you could have left... that you could have trusted more in your love for Fatima. Because what kept you at the oasis was your own fear that you might never come back. At that point, the omens will tell you that your treasure is buried forever.

This quote stuck out to me because it shows his love for Fatima, but he is still interested in the treasure. The whole reason that he came in the first place. So he is conflicted. He is doubting whether or not he would come back, and worried about Fatima.

I think the lesson behind this is about whether you should prioritize/pursue your goals and dreams or focus on your relationship with someone.

On page 119, Santiago is offered wine by the Alchemist (wine being prohibited) asks him why he had offered him some though despite it being something that isn't allowed. The alchemist respond with, "It's not what enters men's mouths that's evil, its what comes out of their mouths that's evil."

I chose this quote because I interpreted this as a metaphorical way of trying to implicate that a problem occurs by how you react to the situation. I think the alchemist is saying that something isn't actually bad unless you make it bad. So necessarily the wine itself isn't the problem but how people respond while/when drinking, but blaming it on the wine. The alchemist then goes on saying "Drink and enjoy," so despite wine being "prohibited" they aren't drinking for the purpose of it being bad, but doing so as like a celebration, that being a preparation for his next journey.
