Kraken is a mythical sea monster of gigantic proportions, known from the descriptions of Norwegian and Icelandic sailors, from whose language its name derives. The image of the Kraken was repeatedly used in fiction and film. According to the Danish author, this Kraken confuses the minds of sailors and cartographers, as sailors often take it for an island and cannot find it a second time. According to the testimony of the Norwegian sailors, once a huge squid, similar to the kraken, was cast ashore in northern Norway.Next, Pontoppidan transmits the words of the sailors that it takes Kraken three months to digest the swallowed food. During this time, he releases such an amount of nutrient excrement that he is always followed by clouds of fish. If the fisherman has an exceptional catch, then they say about him that he “fished on the kraken”. The academic community reacted critically to the arguments of Montfort. Skeptics believed that seamen’s evidence of Kraken could be explained by the underwater volcanic activity off the coast of Iceland, which manifests itself in bubbles emanating from the water, a sudden and rather dangerous change of currents, the appearance and disappearance of new islands. It was only in 1857 that the existence of a giant squid (Architeuthis dux), which apparently served as a prototype for the Kraken, was proved.

It seemed we already know everything about the world we live in but still there are some mysteries that we want to reveal.
Loch Ness is the home of probably the world’s most famous monster. People say that from time to time you can see a big monster who they call “Nessie” in this lake. There are some reports about seeing great black humps on the surface of the lake and then their disappearing. The main question is – is it a fact or fiction?

Experts have been discussing that question for years, but in recent times more and more people believe that a whole colony of giant creatures may live in the lake. In 1962 a group of people formed an organization called the Bureau for the Investigation of the Loch Ness Phenomena.

Each summer they invite volunteers who watch the lake. And in 1966, they installed cameras on the banks to prove 'Nessie's' existence. Other people made some photographs on the lake’s surface, but the pictures weren’t good enough to convince anyone, although a film made in 1961 convinced a lot of people that something exists in this lake. The film showed an object twenty-eight metres long, travelling at sixteen kilometers per hour.

People who claim they saw a monster describe it in a very similar way: it has four fins, a tail and it has a length of around eighteen meters.

Some years ago an 18-year old girl from England had a thirty-seven kilometers journey across Loch Ness. It took her thirty hours, some of which she was swimming in the darkness and everyone applauded her for her strength and bravery.

A lot of time has passed since the last article in the unsolved mystery series of the 20th century was published, the editors of our site decided to continue this series. And the next in turn is the Mystery of the Loch Ness Monster (Nessie).

If you turn to the very depths of Celtic legends, then this creature was first noticed by the Roman conquerors. The very first mention of the Loch Ness monster dates back to the 5th century AD, where in one of the chronicles the water beast of the River Ness is mentioned. Then all the references to Nessie disappear right up to 1880, when, with perfectly normal weather, the sailboat with people went to the bottom. The northern Scots immediately remembered the monster, and began to produce all sorts of rumors and legends
The avalanche of rumors reached the point that in one of the major newspapers there was even a story of a married couple, face to face with a monster. On the wave of popularity, a road was built here, many curious people came here to see for themselves the existence of the beast. The once quiet surroundings have become a noisy place, and the shores of the lake have always been filled with photographers and onlookers. A certain enterprising citizen even arranged a number of observation posts along the perimeter of the lake. And lo and behold - during the month the Loch Ness monster was seen as many as 15 times
loch ness
