Our speech and language therapy service can support children and young people from birth to 19 who have speech, language or communication needs or difficulties with eating, drinking or swallowing.

Sensory Chill Out is a free drop-in family session; parents, carers, and siblings are welcome and encouraged to take part in all of the activities in the session. This session is for any age child or young person to attend who has an additional need, learning or physical disability. The session offers the opportunity for families to come along after school, meet others and socialise with each other in a safe and positive environment.

Our Sensory Chill Out sessions give parents and carers the opportunity to build strong connections, share experiences with other parents, gain confidence and ideas to support children’s development and find out about local support and resources that are available.

For neurodiverse individuals, having these items may help them to cope with the challenges they may face in attending an appointment/group.  It is a way to help regulate the nerves and release excess energy.  It may help an individual to be able to focus on what they need to do at the time they need to do it, using sensory regulation.

Separate waiting areas may be available on request for those where waiting in a busy reception area would prove challenging.

Showing up for autistic people can be easier than you might think. Showing up can look like taking little steps to understand someone’s experience of the world.

• Allowing time for them to process or space for them to regulate.

• Shifting your expectations and making it clear that that’s OK.

• Advocating for autistic colleagues in the workplace and the world.

There are so many simple, everyday ways you can make a huge difference while helping to build a kinder, more supportive world for everyone.

What we ask of you when using our Sensory Room:

• Please remove all footwear and leave them outside the Sensory Room when using.

• Please keep the Sensory Room a food and drink-free zone. We have a cafe area out in the foyer where you can have food and drinks.

• Please report any broken or faulty resources or equipment to our admin staff.

• Please leave the Sensory Room as you find it, tidy away any resources you have used.

• Please follow safety advice when switching off electrical equipment and lights.

• No more than 3 adults, 3 children to use the Sensory Room per session.

• Please report any accidents or spillages to a member of staff.

Child and teen behaviour, mental health, emotions, anxiety

Northumberland Recovery College is co-ordinated by Everyturn Mental Health, and enables adults across Northumberland to access courses and sessions that promote wellbeing and can improve their mental health. We work collaboratively with students, community-based professionals and organisations from across a variety of sectors to make sure we are meeting the needs of the local communities. Our provision is delivered by our Peer Support Workers, CNTW Peers Support Workers and local facilitators, in community venues across the County.

These sessions are inclusive, welcoming, and supportive. You'll meet other families and explore ways to connect with your child and support their learning and development through everyday interactions.

The Autism Support Team offer school based support to children and young people who have social communication difficulties or a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

The Toby Henderson Trust (TTHT) is an independently funded charity supporting autistic children, young people and adults, their families and carers in the North East of England.   We provide relevant, appropriate and accessible support for autistic young people from two years into adulthood, whilst also empowering parents, families and carers by sharing knowledge, experience and understanding.  We acknowledge that yours or your child’s situation is unique and we encourage you to contact us to discuss how we can offer individual support.

Our physiotherapy service supports children and young people aged 0-19 who have developmental, neurological, neuromuscular or musculoskeletal difficulties.

We can help with:

• Recovering from sports injuries, fractures, head injuries

• Rehabilitation after surgery

• Painful joints

• Physical difficulties caused by long term health conditions, e.g. genetic conditions, cerebral palsy, spina bifida

• Delayed acquisition of physical skills, e.g. sitting, walking

The Northumberland Sensory Support Service is a team of specialist staff who work across the county with children and young people with hearing impairments (HI), vision impairments (VI) and multi-sensory impairments (MSI). Our aim is that all children make good progress, achieve well and enjoy their school and family life. Staff support the children and young people from 0-19 (25 with an EHCP) along with their families and schools/educational settings.

Our occupational therapists support children and young people who may experience difficulties carrying out and participating in activities of everyday life, for example their self-care, school work or play.

This service is delivered by Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and is based at Wansbeck General Hospital.

Our overall aim is to support parents, carers, education staff and other professional groups to understand how sensory processing can impact on daily life.

The service will provide information on how to modify activities and the environment to support participation in activities of daily life for children and young people with sensory processing challenges.

The 0-19 (25 for SEND) team are located in all localities across Northumberland. The service is predominately a home visiting service but contacts can be arranged in Family Hubs, education, colleges and community settings when required. The 0-19 service works closely with all partner organisations who provide services for children, young people and families to provide positive outcomes for all.

Portage is a home based teaching service for pre-school children (under 3 1/2 years) with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The aim is to help parents and carers support their child's learning.
