Katherine Johnson helped John Glenn land on the moon.

Black people were segregated at the time.

. A lot of people in her hometown were mathematicians and scientists.

. Because there were so many African American people working at NASA, she associated engineers and mathematicians with African Americans.

. The main characters our Dorothy Vaughan., Katherine Johnson,Mary Jackson, and Christine Darden and they all loved math

-She grew up around a lot of people that were smart and/or interested in NASA and space

-They did a lot of fun stuff with NASA because her dad worked there.

-Everything was very segregated

-It was hard to get a real and good paying job.

-She got a job that let her express her mathematical ability's

-Her new job made it so that she only saw her children on holidays!

. World war ll gave the ladys a chance to become mathematicians because the jobs used to previously be filled by men but they were all serving in the military.

. The U.S were trying to make really efficient planes.

. African Americans did not have access to white colleges.

-When working they weren't as segregated but in the bathrooms and cafeteria their were signs to show where colored people should sit.

-They had to help out the Tuskegee Airmen with their planes so they could go even faster and be an even better plane.

-They weren't allowed to talk about what work they were doing to their family or friends.

-F and P meant pursuit planes, C was for cargo planes, B was for bombers and X marked the spot of experimental planes.

. Everybody in Dorothy's work building were black meaning that Langley was very segregated

. The signs in the cafeteria were segregated

. Dorothy became really involved in the war

. Dorothy moved to a new neighborhood that had a larger African- American population

. When the war ended women were starting to lose their jobs at NACA

-She sometimes worked 18 hour days! Which left little time to be with her family

-Dorothy's mother-in-law did not like the idea of her children moving into where she works

-The U.S. government was trying to uplift her house and community

-They were trying to make an aircraft capable of flying faster than sound

-In 1949 Dorothy's boss suffered a mental breakdown and was forced to leave her work

-Mary Winston Jackson came to work for Dorothy

-Mary marries Levi Jackson and they get married in 1944

-Mary had a son

-People got scared that Russia was going to make the U.S. a communist country

. She was then assigned a management role after the former leader left

. Mary Jackson got married and had kids and was a stay at home Mom for while

. Mary Jackson was good at lifting other people up and raising their expectations

. Mark Jackson would stick by her work and got a reputation for being a really dedicated mathematician

. She worked under Dorothy Vaughan

. Langley got new calculators that were computers to replace the women

. The new calculators were more efficient and could solve really long calculations in just a couple of hours

. The women trying really hard to get qualified for other jobs at Langley

. The segregated schools had old and broken down textbooks and one of the school buses crashed so a women named Barbara Johns took action to integrate schools

. Some students thought they would not be good enough for the white students who had better school conditions

. At Langley the segregated pool was starting to integrate with the other computing centers

. Men also started to get computing jobs at Langley

. Katherine was always very confident in her calculations and work.

. The spacecraft at first had multiple issues including the heat shield being loose and the NASA engineers losing signal of John Glenn but John managed to fix the heat shield

. The landing only managed to be off by 40 miles and the computers were able to predict that John Glenn would have a safe landing

. Katherine was now discussing with her colleagues about sending the Apollo to mars
