I learned about the purpose and nature of encyclical letters. From the world, “cyclical,” these letters are supposed to be reminders to all people of all generations, because an encyclical doesn’t just tackle political issues but it also reminds us about catholic values that we must uphold.

I learned that much of these encyclicals are not just for the Catholic & Christian communities, they are for anyone and everyone, because everyone needs to hear about and have a part, big or small, in addressing the issues of our world. It would be extremely hypocritical, if we were limiting the people capable of having a heart and doing justice, to just the people who share our values. The point of these encyclicals, isn't necessarily to convert & persuade, rather it is to divert our actions to a more righteous path, and dissuade ourselves and others were taking part in ideologies that do wrong by others. -Safina

Learning about how one should interpret the encyclicals was an eye opener for me. Before coming into the lesson, I thought encyclicals were just some sort of regular referendum but after our classes I’ve realized that it is much more than that.
