My name is Joana Ferreira and I'm 22 years old. I'm a student of higher education from Portugal, studing on a small town called Viseu.

I'm not yet a teacher, but everyday that passes, is one step foward to the goal. This is the last year of my studies and I'm hoping teaching one day, as soon as possible.

Right now, I'm writing a master's thesis and my theme is "The pedagogical potencial of mobile technologies and applications in pre-school education".

I was challenged to participate on this course by my guiding teacher Dr.ª Maribel Pinto in order to broaden my horizons with regard to the construction of my research project.

In fact I'm sutiding for being teacher. I started my graduation in 2010 in the upper school education.

Along my journey I had the pleasure of working with three educational levels: pre-school, primary school and second cycle (5th and 6th grade). However my training is dedicated to pre-school and primary school.

In schools where I worked there were not many computer resources available to children. Just had a computer room and a interactive whiteboard. However, the ESEV delivered three tablets for students, an opportunity that I used to consider what the potential of tablets and mobile devices in pre-school education.

With this opportunity then arose the subject of my research thesis where I want to highlight the utility of these resources for our children and remember that pre-school education in Portugal is mainly a child preparing for their day-by-day and not only to school and, for this reason we must give them information about the evolution that the society records daily and make them learn to deal with that reality.

It should be noted that take as main reference my last educational context whick took place in a pre-school room with 20 children aged 3 to 5 years old.

In my country, the investigation departements to educational themes are fighting every day to get a new school vision, a school that can provide monitoring of changes on society. It is increasingly critical look at the school as a means of preparing children for the future and not just for what we live today.

In fact what has been happening is that parents give in tablets and smartphones into the hands of children in order to keep them quiet for a while. Mainly for this reason opinions have come up dividing over time preventing this feature is implemented in schools.

However we are looking at this problem from the wrong perspective. If the introduction of this technology is accompanied and guided it may prove to be an asset to all. Motivation and creativity is one of the crucial points in this journey, for every novelty is a motivation not only for teachers but to the children too. Also monitor the evolution of society is a reference that we have, as has been said we work so that children know how to live in the present and in the near future taking place not only educated but also the personal and social level. For this reason we must as school always be at the forefront of what surrounds us.

Another point that has been overlooked in this reality it is the development of intuition children. The tablet is a computer resource that works mainly by intuition to be composed of a touchscreen which allows us to work with children at a very eraly age to the expected. This tool also allows the child to learn to be independent and combines the best of both worlds: the pedagogy and leisure. It is also to appreciate the speed with which we can access the information and the extended reality that this material gives us. We fail to have a static image going to have movies, videos and other digital assets.

1.3 - What whole-school challenges do I already face or do I anticipate facing when using tablets?

In fact, the Portuguese Public schools are little prepared to receive this type of projects. Unfortunately the monetary resources available to our schools are not enough for all the needs we encounter. For this reason the technological resources have been some what neglected in the reality of our school.

Fortunately I am a student Polytechnic Institute and requested the purchase of this equipment to be enjoyed by teachers and students. Then got three tablets that were used throughout my intervention from my research prject. These tablets are available to all teachers and students of the institution. Since this possibility there are also libraries and media libraries where you can order this type of resources.

Another problem that haunts our schools it is the lack of Wi-Fi in schools. Even in recent institutions, this service has been overlooked having only an internal ntwork for use in stationary computers. To get around this I used only applications that could be used without internet access limiting somewhat the potencial of this resource. However, in Portugal, there are mobile broadband services and hot-spots which, though a little demanding the monetary level can get around this.

Being a garden for children in the organization of the room was not too difficult to manage room because I did not run away very reality that already existed. How had only three avaailable tablets used the activities turnover.

The lack of teacher training is also a very visible problem in our day-by-day. Teachers do not have time, patience or resources to do so. You must understand that we really need training so we can know what to do and how to become our school a place of meaningful learning and not just training stereotyped individuals.

Another point that has been delaying this practice it is the difficulty that some parents have to understand this action as a good practice because we are still very attached to the idea that leisure and learning can not join and get significant results. To this are essential some clarification meetings and full availability of the teacher to clarify the parents, not the setting aside this very complex process, the formation of your student.

In fact I haven't found great difficulties to the introduction of tablets in the group. Perhaps for the garden for children to be more receptive to different types of experiences and activities children to be more receptive to routine that eas developed over eight sessions. Howevwe I would like to refer to some points in my experience. Being a level of education where children are in different stages of development and even at different ages was necessary to take some things into consideration. To start the children were sitting on the blanket where they explained what's a tablet and that we could use. Although nowadays almost all children have access to a one must understand that not all parents leave or give this reality to children. I made a point to speak also what security measures we should have because they are not toys that can lie in the ground or spoil. Then I gave each child the opportunity to say what they like and usually do on their tablet or what they would do in that now we had in the room. For only having three tablets was created a rotation tasks that were going doing: while some children explored the remaining tablets were taking other activities in other room locations. Fortunately for this organization can count on the collaboration of leading educator and education aid that went directing the remaining children for other activities.

As regards the assessment was watching the involvement and performance of the child over the activities can understand the application and the activity was made through an involvement of table often used for the evaluation of the child in the preschool level.

Another pointthst I had in mind was to distance myself from being the center of attention going to circulate the room but always without being the focus of demand for children. I noticed that during the sessions stopped looking for me so often interacting with their peers and trying to solve their difficulties. However I kept ever present throughout the activities.

We can take pictures and edit them and join creating our virtual city.

I propose that theme because it's chosen by the kids and they are realy interesting when we talk about it.

Another idea it's maybe kids descovery things about their pets or their favorite animal and create a virtual zoo. Then it is important that students understand that the task and the importance of all to participate in it. Competitiveness is also a point of motivation for students by getting them to focus on their objetivo.Deve be given some time for students to complete the activities at their own pace but not too much time so as not to dispercem goal.

For me the main factors for this collaboration are organization, communication and planning.
First of all the joint planning as just so we can really set important goals for both groups certainly have different needs and contexts, the organization because it is emerging the division of tasks and the understanding of the structure of the work itself. Finally the communication so that both groups understand what is being done by each, which are difficult to find and that solutions can be given to these constraints.

In the course of study where I am usual our assessment be a little different. In kindergarten interests us most know the involvement of children in activities than actually the learning that it acquired. For this reason it is possible to evaluate children through the involvement of Leavers scale (1993). It is possible also the educator also register some moments of the activity of each group to further evaluate their behavior before situations and activity.

For now I still can not apply the use of tablets in order to promote learning in a group of children. However, I understand that when every child has a tablet at your disposal is allowed to respond more effectively to their needs and difficulties respecting your pace. A good teacher can provide tasks for each student according to their purposes: extol the abilities of the student or help it to overcome its limitations and difficulties.

It is important for teachers to know their students in a unique way. This requires the teacher to allow all children to experience all kinds of experiences we can do with them. Another way to know what the best methods of learning for each child can also be the direct questioning where the child himself tells us in that situation think that learn best. However for me the best way to understand the kind of favorable learning each child it is the observation. Every child has the capacity to perform all kinds of activities however is very easy for a teacher accompanying a group every day to understand what the particularities of each and how is that these can be harnessed for the construction of knowledge.

In fact it had not yet aware of this class of operation. To me it seems that the reversal of our classrooms could become more useful and productive in the construction of knowledge.
However for this to be possible we need to really change the whole school image we have for so many years.
The living room of the main image ceases to be a teacher and becomes the work that students develop.
To be able to this realization must the teacher know and plan and envision their class. It is also important that the teacher become your flexible lesson plan in order to know how to deal with some unforeseen events. It also balance the resources that are exploited at home so that students do not desmotivem with regard to the theoretical part.
For all this it is necessary that each student has his or her electronic device so you can access the information given to it.
It is a project that presents the whole viability to be achieved, however it is crucial that teachers know what they are doing and have a critical reflection regarding your practice.

The difficulty in getting such projects is to leave we feel that the teacher should have everything done for students to learn. It is necessary to understand that the work is done by the teacher but also need collaboration and student interest. One of the challenges of such classes would be the preparation that students should do at home and the necessary support for the parents in this work. It is necessary to change the school's vision and the surrounding society accept and support this task.
