Tone 1- Depressing

Chapter 9 is basically all depressing and low. This is shown by the quote- "At these moments I wept bitterly and wished that peace would revisit my mind only that I might afford them consolation and happiness." (Shelley 87)

Victor meets the Monster in chapter 10, which definitely sends a tone of tense fear. " Devil," I exclaimed, "do you dare approach me? And do not you fear the fierce vengeance of my arm wreaked on your miserable head?" (Shelley 95)

Tone 3- Clear

Clear is a broad word for a tone, but I believe it explains this chapter, since the monster is explaining things to Victor, and making him understand. "It is with considerable difficulty that I remember the original era of my being; all the events of that period appear confused and indistinct." (Shelley 99)

For three different chapters, I chose three different tones. It is important to have so many different tones because it adds depth and different points of view to the story. These tones can relate to multiple things. For example, my third tone deals with conflict. When the monster was approaching Victor, it was tense. The tension came from the fact that Victor thought he would have to fight for his life. The other tones also relate to different themes, settings, etc.
