Our patients are admitted via various routes. Many admissions are via EGAU, but we also have emergency admissions via A&E and outpatient clinics.

This placement will hopefully provide a learning experience that will help achieve your clinical competencies and personal development at whatever stage of your training/career you find yourself.

♥ You will receive orientation to the clinical area by an appropriate member of staff.

♥ You will be given the opportunity to achieve clinical practice outcomes

You will be supported in achieving learning objectives specific to this placement. These may include:

♥ Using Welsh Nursing Care Record (WNCR) for documentation

♥ Administration of medication under supervision

♥ Fundamentals of nursing care

♥ Admission, discharge and transfer of patients in acute setting

♥ Management of complex discharge

♥ Multidisciplinary care management

♥ Utilisation in trust led initiatives (Safer Patient Initiative, Patient Services Improvement Team, and POVA)

Our shift times are as follows:

06:50 - 19:30

18:50 - 07:30

Sickness

If you are sick and are going to be absent from work, please telephone the ward and inform the nurse in charge. Please give as much notice as you can and if possible, an estimated date that you will be fit to return. Please ensure that a student information leaflet is completed on your first day on the ward giving your contact for the ward to keep on file. (Please also contact your appropriate university/personal tutor as required).

Uniform

Appropriate uniform and identification badges must be worn at all times. Please ensure you abide by Aneurin Bevan Health Board / University Policy.

Meal Breaks

You are entitled to meal breaks as per working time directive.

There are facilities on the ward such as a fridge and microwave to store or heat food.

Smoking

Please note Aneurin Bevan Health Board is a NO SMOKING environment, this includes Vaping.
