I do believe in many societies, the ability to read and write will allow people within those societies to understand the world around them, find their place outside of their society, and understand what they want to make meaning of in their lives. If these "reading and writing skills" are limited within the range of certain languages, this would produce discrimination against dialects/vernaculars/other linguistic minority groups.
