Heroes in this genre of film are usually males, usually independent, self-reliant and although they have a tough facade, they usually open up and reveal that they are capable of expressing emotions - this is usually quite cathartic and formative for them.

I often notice that the common theme in Gangster films is that most characters wear smart clothes like suits and trench coats and smoke cigarettes. The plot is often the same including a story of a mafia it starts with the main character starting with nothing and starts to get involved in gang wars with two rival gangs fighting for more territory the problem is tried to be resolved verbally however it never works out so it turns even more violent, then by the end of the film they rise through the ranks and become the mafia don/leader.

Most conversations we see in the gangster genre type of movie we see its set in mainly a dark setting and with grown men in dark black suits/coats. We see they carry guns on them as well to keep safe from rival gangs we see a lot of smoking like cigarettes and cigars for the big boss. They are men of business when it comes down to the conflict in the movies seeing shootouts in some movies. I think in the end when it comes down to it in the gangster genre it's mostly about the hero of the movie taking down the mob boss/trying to escape to a new life from his past life of murder and crime.

In Gangster genre movies, some common conventions or occurrences are the long black coats that they wear. Another is the setting which is usually dimly lit and dark. The weather is normally rainy, stormy, or at least overcast to show the cold and emotionless feeling. The common props are usually handheld firearms, cigarettes, and bowler hats. Gangster movies tend to focus on the rivalry between two different gangs or the implosion of one gang by one or more members disagreeing on what they are doing.

Hero- A convention of a gangster film is the idea of the hero, someone to save the day. There are some gangster films that have the plot of either the hero turning into the villain and vise versa. This keeps us on edge the makes us question who we are rooting for in the film.
