The first element I chose was character and the character was Ender. Now obviously if the poem is mainly focused on the main character of the novel that would be the connection between the two. For the poem I used the "I am" poem to express who Ender is or who he fears of becoming. You see the poem explores who Ender really is by going from back to back of the killer inside of him that only seems to bring destruction to the kid genius who only cared for his sister.

The second element I chose was conflict. To be more specific the conflict I centered on was the one imposed on Ender throughout the novel that makes him begin to question who he really is. Ender begins to wonder is he really a killer, a monster, just like Peter or was he the genius kid brother that just wants to be with his sister. This actually troubles Ender throughout the novel especially because the IF want him to become this killer so they manipulate him into becoming one. The poem centers on this the inner conflict within Ender by showing the constant pain that went on through him as he was manipulated into becoming a killer when he never truly wanted to be in the first place.

Both the poem and novel share the theme of identity and just how truly horrible it can affect someone. The poem centers on Ender and his issue with becoming the killer the IF want him to be and the constant grief he suffers as result. The poem also shows that Ender wants to repent for what he has done, especially in the case of bringing back an alien species he destroyed. This in a way shows that Ender finally wants to take control of his identity and rid himself of the identity he was forced to take
