The organization is currently desperate for support because of lacking resources due to treating patients. Captain Tom Moore is serving his country again from his garden in Bedfordshire County in the United Kingdom. At the start of April, he set a goal for himself. He wanted to raise money for the NHS, so created a fundraising page online. Moore decided to walk the 82-foot length of his garden back and forth 100 times, using his walker for support. At first he just wanted to raise 1250 pounds but ended up earning $1.25 million. Although this may seem small, but acts like this are important in times like this because money is being made made to help people during the COVID-19.

When schools abruptly closed in March due to the coronavirus pandemic, California resident Laura Smith found herself in the same position as millions of working parents: juggling a full-time job while teaching her children.
“What I realized is it’s a full-time job to do the distance learning, and then you’re working at the same time,” she told TODAY. “I’m not a teacher. I don’t have professional experience in that or a degree in that, and it’s basically impossible to keep them on track and also work.”So she was immensely relieved to learn the nonprofit Helen Woodward Animal Center, where she works as an executive assistant, would be offering free educational assistance to employees while schools are closed for in-person learning. Licensed teachers will be available on-site to tutor students in grades K-10 taking online classes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays starting Aug. 20

-Zulema

Especially to the elders, a simple act of kindness such as helping someone carry in their groceries would be very helpful although you would need to make sure you wear a mask. As stated in the article, "The report says that someone stopping to help their elderly neighbor carry groceries home tends to boost well-being factors more than a scheduled event, like volunteering at a charity for the day," (Do good, feel good: Random acts of kindness improve well being, physical health) therefore explaining who performed the act of kindness to whom. This act takes place at an elderly's home. Although there is a worldwide pandemic going on, this small act could really create an impact because people of older age may have a hard time carrying groceries and need to be able to stock up for a few weeks due to the virus.

Source: Newsela

In 1847, members of the Choctaw Nation gave $170 to Ireland. It was during the Great Famine. That would be like giving $5,000 today. This came after thousands of Native Americans died from hunger and disease on the Trail of Tears. They were forced to move west. An online campaign is raising money. It will go to the Native Americans of the Navajo Nation and Hopi Reservation. They are in Arizona, New Mexico and Utah. The campaign's workers talked about gifts from Ireland. Vanessa Tulley worked on the campaign. Native Americans cared about Ireland's famine. Tulley said they knew what it was like to suffer. So the acts of kindness are being paid back years later, she said. Tulley thanked Ireland for being there for them.Ethel Branch also worked on the campaign. It has received more than $2.6 million. The money will help buy groceries, water and more. Irish people had given about half a million dollars, Branch said on May 5.It is incredible to see how much they care, Branch said.Along with giving money, many shared sweet messages about their gift. Several of them said, "Ireland remembers."One said the help was being returned 170 years later. It is for "our Native American brothers and sisters," Pat Hayes wrote.

Every day on every news channel, teenage siblings Prabhleen and Mantej Lamba watched the sacrifices of medical workers around the world. These medical workers risk their physical and mental health on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic."We were really moved by this," said Prabhleen, 15 years old, "and we knew that we had to involve our community and take action."So in the spirit of the Sikh faith's core principle of "seva" or selfless service, the San Francisco Bay area teens launched an initiative. They called it Cards 4 COVID Heroes. They let health care workers know how much they are appreciated. In just two months, they collected more than 250 thank you cards. The cards have come from members of the community, mailed to their home in the suburban city of Fremont, California. Then they've sent them to workers at four hospitals. Each card comes with a $10 gift card.Handwritten thank you cards.Zoom-inImage 2. These handwritten thank you cards for health care workers were sent to the Lamba sibling's house in Fremont, California, to be delivered to hospitals. Photo: Mantej Singh LambaThe handwritten cards are often decorated with hearts, flowers or stars. One had a drawing of a hospital with the phrase, "Heroes work here." Girl Scout Troop 31164's message was, "Thank you for going to work every day and being there when we need it the most."The teens also created an e-card option. It lets people go online. They fill out a Google form. They then print out the message submitted there on a template that the siblings created. One of the cards pictures doctors and nurses donning capes and an image of Spider-Man with a stethoscope."During these times of darkness and uncertainty, we just wanted to try to shine some light on the fact that we do have true heroes working on the front lines who are trying their hardest to save people's lives," said Mantej, who is 17 years old.So far Prabhleen and Mantej have sent cards to four hospitals. They include the University of California-Davis Medical Center, the Los Angeles Community Hospital, the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center, and the Chandler Regional Medical Center in Arizona.Health care workers in personal protective equipment hold up thank you cards.Zoom-inImage 3. Health care workers at Los Angeles Community Hospital in Los Angeles, California, hold the cards they received from the Cards 4 COVID Heroes initiative, June 30, 2020. Photo: Keith Levy via APFor the first two weeks, they drew on friends and family for support. Then they started a GoFundMe page to collect donations and buy more cards. The feedback has been rewarding."We received pictures from the health care workers, and we can just see from their faces that a small nod of encouragement with a small $10 gift card can go a long way to encourage them and to help them get through the difficult days," Prabhleen said."They know that, 'OK, we're not alone. And there are people who do support us and care for us,'" she said.
