My teaching can show that there are people who care, love and want the best for the kids in their room. Being in a high risk school, I know there is a chance that may be the only adult who shows interest in them that day.

Building a relationship with your student and their family can help them succeed. Meeting them at their level and making them feel seen, giving them a greeting like a high five each morning can help build the connection between teacher and student.

By finding time to connect with each student about their personal lives, and interests, you can better understand why student me act or behave the way that they do. This can help make sure that as teachers, we are able to best support our students and their needs both in and out of the classroom, especially when they may not have this support at home.

I tend to connect with my students because I am younger, so the way I teach is through connection to their ages. I use jokes and things that they are familiar with to get major themes across. I also use hands-on learning and let them think. We all understand that we won't agree, but we work together to try to understand each other.
