         <description><![CDATA[<p><p><span>Formative assessments</span></p><p>This lesson will be given during a discussion of American History, and as a formative assessment students will be posed a question on Polleverywhere.com. The Think Pair Share form will also be turned in and returned with feedback.</p><p>Summative Assessment</p>Students will create a propaganda poster for either for or against Manifest Destiny, defend it in front of the class, and will turn this in for a grade at the end of the lesson. A rubric will be created in order assess this assignment.</p>]]></description>

While watching the video students will write their thoughts in the Think portion of the paper. Working with a partner they will then fill out the Pair portion of the notes. They will then write down something they learned from this video and the sharing experience. This portion will be shared with the class. In order to assess their knowledge of Manifest Destiny, students will divide into small groups and use the website toondoo.com to create their own political cartoons of the different viewpoints of Manifest Destiny. These cartoons will then be shown to the class and students will have to defend the viewpoint they are assigned. Students will divide a paper into two columns by folding it in half. They will quickly read the text and write notes in the left hand column with no more than two or three words per paragraph. Students will then use the right hand column to elaborate based on textual evidence, make connections to other texts, make connections to other lessons, or make connections to their own lives. Students will use these words and add more in order to create a poetic retelling of the events that happened in the text.
