I learned that the UN holds the power to withdraw signed-upon plans of aid if the mission seems unsuccessful. While this mandate makes sense, as it prevents the wasting of resources, it could be corrupt in certain contexts. Developing countries are particularly vulnerable to complete economic collapse, so the idea that the UN can go-back on support if things aren’t moving along quickly enough sounds like it could threaten the stability of those countries. I understand the UN’s need to protect its own value, but it is also to my knowledge that the organization holds somewhat of an abundance of funds to support these sorts of missions. Perhaps the UN prioritizes itself even in its pursuits to better our global economic state.

Lastly, the straightforward nature of Ward’s writing made the document reasonably digestible. This makes me wonder whether or not said candidness proves effective in getting messages across to the World Bank and ensuring responsive action from the other side.
