While mindfulness can't fix broken bones or cure symptoms of illness on its own, a University of Minnesota article points out that being mindful can improve the psychological experience of pain and reduce the pain intensity.

Much like it's affect on physical pain, emotional pain can also be aided by mindful practices. Self measured individuals in Zeidan's study self-reported feeling less emotional pain after being in the mindfulness group. Though emotions are related to other parts of the brain, taking a moment to meditate, breath and be aware of one's surroundings can help one calm down in a panicked state and refocus one's attention to the issue at hand and help them approach it from a more subdued or rational perspective.
