The difference between elements, compounds, and mixtures is that an element can not be broken down into smaller and simpler substances, even through a chemical reaction. A compound is made by 2 substances being chemically bonded to be formed, such as H20, or water. And finally, a mixture is formed by combining two or more different materials but aren't chemically bonded, such as when salt dissolves in water and makes salt water. Mixtures can also be separated, such as heating up water so it evaporates and leaves the salt behind.
