Because he does not have parents he doesn't know basic morals to have a good life. Alex Choi says that we learn things by watching our parents and how other around us act. Because Ponyboy does not have parents he learns form his friends (a bad influence because they have gone to jail and been accused for murders). I have lived between these classes because I lived in between Compton and Long Beach California. In Compton it was more poor and in Long Beach it was more rich people.
