My primary concern about AI’s impact on higher education is the ethical integration of AI as a tool to enhance, rather than hinder, student learning. Without clear and well-structured AI policies, there is a risk of creating confusion or undermining the integrity of the educational system. My main concerns are how the leaders gave had a head start on public datasets both free from regulation and an environment free from AI spam, giving them a permanent lead. Also regulation based on protecting those leads, etc.

Inherent Bias/Copyright Infringement

Inherent bias used to train LLM's. These models mimic the data they receive. Therefore, everyone must be aware of the preexisting bias the person inputting information into the model has. Yet, this isn't transparent. Additionally, models can produce inaccurate, inappropriate information. Another area of concern is copyright infringement, especially as it relates to Generative AI. Many of these models "create" content by pulling it from original works. If the user asks to create a Van Gogh type drawing of a camel, it's going to look at Van Gogh paintings or people who've tried to replicate the same style. This goes for regurgitating the words of famous writers or an academic paper when composing an answer to a question. It's pulled from their intellectual property. How can this truly be mitigated?
