This quote shows that, although Prospero has a lot of power, he cannot use his magic properly because he doesn't know who or what he is doing there.

Perspective strongly influences how someone uses their power and knowledge in a situation. Without knowing the full scope of what's happening, Prospero yells at Ferdinand, "The name thou ow’st not, and hast put thyself / Upon this island as a spy" (Shakespeare 1.2.548-549). Without having the correct perspective Prospero believes that Ferdinand is a spy and uses his power in the moment to disarm him.

act 2: Knowledge

Without the knowledge of a situation, others can manipulate and control what ideas and notions you have in any such circumstance. After everyone except Sebastian and Antonio is put to sleep by Ariel, Antonio tries to persuade Sebastian to kill the king. He tells him that he could be the king and before they can go through with the act the king and Gonzalo awake to see Sebastian and Antonio with their swords drawn. They use their specific knowledge of the situation to control both the king's and Gonzalo's iteration of what is happening at that moment. They tell them both, "Whiles we stood here securing your repose, / Even now, we heard a hollow burst of bellowing

Like bulls, or rather lions. Did ’t not wake you? / It struck mine ear most terribly." (Shakespeare 2.1.357-359). By telling the king that they heard an animal they completely controlled how they both saw the situation and how they controlled their power over the situation.

act 3: Knowledge

Power can only be used if one has knowledge to use that power in the correct way. Stephano and Trinculo plan on helping caliban to defeat Prospero to free him but caliban informs them "First to possess his books, for without them / He’s but a sot, as I am, nor hath not / One spirit to command" (Shakespeare 3.2.101-103). Without the knowledge inside those books and without knowledge in general Prospero like most is unable to fight because the true power comes from knowledge that one conceives not the strength or riches that they may have.
