Sameness prevents pain because you won't have any strong emotions. Strong Emotions eventually lead to pain, which, with Sameness, no one can suffer through strong emotions like love and hate.

Pain is a strong discipline that teaches others not to do something because it is hurtful to them. Nobody wants to feel pain, thus if they feel it by doing something, they won't do it again.

Why is sameness in the community good?

-Sameness in the community is good because it limits discrimination, pain, and choices. Pain can be difficult, for example, Jonas and the Giver had to bear all the pain of the community alone which was hard. Sameness can reduce conflict which can occur from discrimination. Sameness also doesn't let anyone make the wrong decisions which could end up in chaous.

Pain shows how you should avoid things, and also how to control extreme emotions.

A: Pain will train people to not do the same mistake as last time, as nobody wants to suffer more and will most likely revert their ways not to feel the same pain again.

A: Sameness keeps people from feeling emotions, but in some cases of sadness and mental or physical anguish, Sameness is good as it prevents people from making rash decisions and starting unnecessary conflicts.

I believe that love is the most essential feeling because of its capacity to feel for others. Yes, pain guides us through wisdom, but love can also cause pain, which humbles and teaches us. To feel true happiness, you must feel strong love. That is an undisputable fact.

I would want to live with love because love makes people happy and feels warm. Even though it causes pain, it is important to life to feel that love with your family and friends.

Sameness can prevent pain because without weather, natural disasters split families apart, which causes sadness and pain. It also causes injuries. Without love, people can't feel that deep pain.

I believe that Jonas did make the right choice. If Jonas did not leave the community and take Gabriel with him, Gabriel would have been "released" or executed for an unjust reason, and Jonas would stay custom to the bland society which lacks true emotions as opposed to the new society he might have entered.

I think he should have left the community because even he would die, so many lives would improve with the ability to see memories.

I believe that Jonas did make the right choice. If he stayed in the community, Gabriel would have died, plaguing Jonas with guilt. Jonas would also suffer loneliness and can't interact or be with the people he loves. He knows that nobody truly loves him or each other.

I don't think it should be used since many feelings will be prevented. Not only will pain and other negative emotions be eliminated, but so will true happiness, love, and all the other positive emotions. We also won't have our own independence or choices in the world.

When the apple turned red, it was significant because it was the first moment when Jonas accessed "seeing beyond" and when Jonas finally recognized himself as the Receiver.

I feel like the sled at the end of the story represents the past and how he got his first memory. It was his first memory that he ever received so it was very special and significant to him. This was also allowed him to feel what real pain feels like.

When Jonas was first introduced to the sled, he was completely unfamiliar with colors and memories. In the end, he had learned a lot about society and saw the sled as the last thing he saw before beginning a new life Elsewhere. In a way, the sled represents new beginnings.

While both emotions are important and a part of being alive, pain should objectively be more important because it gives experience. While love gives people happiness, pain gives experience to help people improve and learn. Love may feel good, but in my opinion, pain is more useful.

Shortly after Jonas sees the apple changing color, his life drastically changes, due in part to his unique job assignment: The Receiver of Memory. This specific scene represents a new perspective about life, because Jonas finds that color and emotion are aspects of life that are not part of his community. After learning about color, Jonas argues that his community is not open to opinion or choice for citizens.
