         <description><![CDATA[<div><em>Doctors call it a neuropsychiatric disorder.Attention-deficit/ hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is defined as 'a persistent pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity that interferes with functioning or development'. ADHD often causes secondary impairments in working memory, motivation and<br>internalization of speech.This means problems in the brain cause abnormal patterns of behavior.</em></div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li><em>Approximately 11% of children 4-17 years of age (6.4 million) have been diagnosed with ADHD as of 2011.</em></li><li><em>The percentage of children with an ADHD diagnosis continues to increase, from 7.8% in 2003 to 9.5% in 2007 and to 11.0% in 2011.</em></li><li><em>Rates of ADHD diagnosis increased an average of 3% per year from 1997 to 2006 and an average of approximately 5% per year from 2003 to 2011.</em></li><li><em>&nbsp;Boys (13.2%) were more likely than girls (5.6%) to have ever been diagnosed with ADHD.</em></li><li><em>The average age of ADHD diagnosis was 7 years of age, but children reported by their parents as having more severe ADHD were diagnosed earlier.</em></li><li><em>Prevalence of ADHD diagnosis varied substantially by state, from a low of 5.6% in Nevada to a high of 18.7% in Kentucky.</em></li></ul><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li>Seat the student with ADHD away from windows and the door, right in front of your desk unless that would be a distraction for the student.</li><li>Give instructions one at a time and repeat as necessary.If possible, work on the most difficult material early in the day.&nbsp;</li><li>Use visuals: charts, pictures, color coding.Create outlines for note-taking that organize the information as you deliver it.&nbsp;</li><li>Create a quiet area free of distractions for test-taking and quiet study.&nbsp;</li><li>Reduce the number of timed tests.Test the student with ADHD in the way he or she does best, such as orally or filling in blanks; give frequent short quizzes rather than long tests.&nbsp;</li><li>Accept late work and give partial credit for partial work</li></ul><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li><em>It is more common for children with ADHD to start abusing alcohol during their teenage years. In one study, 14% of children ages 15-17 with ADHD had problems with alcohol abuse or dependence as adults, compared to peers without ADHD. &nbsp;</em></li><li><em>People with ADHD tend to be more impulsive and likely to have behavior problems, both of which can contribute to drug and alcohol abuse.</em></li></ul>]]></description>
