Global Warming

The world's biggest problem is Global Warming. As you all know, the earth is becoming warmer and warmer. From the early 1800s, the carbon onsluaght began, according to recent study. Then the Technological Era spiked the carbon emmissions. In 1975, an economist, Dr. William Nordhaus was the first person to see climate change as a threat to the world. By doing some calculations, he said that if the global temperatures rose to more than 2 degrees Celsius, the world will change "... in ways not seen for 'the last several hundred years.'" He also predicted that at the then-current rates, the danger zone was 2030. So finally after 40 years of Nordhaus' work, the UN ratified the 2 degree limit, in 2016. But they also made it that they should stay under 1.5 degree Celsius. Right now we are at 1 degree Celcius above the normal rate.

The Year Climate Change Began to Spin Out of Control

2017 is considered as the year that the rate of change of climate started to spin out control. After some 3 somewhat flat years, the emissions picked up again. Many things that helped to pick it up were big raging fires in California, USA (due to prolonged drought, the vegitation had dried up, and all that was needed to start the blaze was a spark), and rising carbon pollution in India and China. And, the wrath of the climate change started to show. Big hurricanes, like Hurricane Harvey, which attacked south-west USA. This was the begining of the new hyperactive hurricanes. This was when the change started to rise again.

Can We Stop The Earth From Being a Runaway Greenhouse Like Venus?

Before I explain if we can stop Earth from heating up, we need to know the meaning of Runaway Greenhouse. A greenhouse is a space were plants are grown inside glass buildings, which keep it warm and trap the heat. In the same way, the Earth has a greenhouse, its atmosphere. The atmosphere is what traps in the heat and allows life to exist. If it wasn't there, then the temperature would be a bone-chilling 0 degrees Farenheit(-18 degrees Celsius). The average global temperature was a nice 14 degree Celsius, but now it is 15 degree Celsius. So, what is a runaway greenhouse? A runaway greenhouse when the planet, Earth in our case, goes to a certain temperature where the world begins to grow hotter and hotter. The rising temperature cannot be stopped. That would be a potential disaster. The tipping point is estimated to be around 3 to 4 degrees, where bringing earth back is very low, nearly impossible. So the world has signed an agreement to stay under 1.5 degree limit. But by the looks of it, we will pass the 2 degree limit by 2100. The only way we can stop is to cut our carbon emissions is to reduce it by less than 33% of the IPCC's carbon budget.
