I picked an image of the Amazon Rainforest because it's one of the greatest providers of oxygen and material resources to our planet, and it's all thanks to the plant life that is there. The world was in a panic when it was burning down recently, and losing it would be losing a vital source of not only resources, but oxygen for our planet. With this said, it's not just a place that represents the environment well, but also society, as it has been a topic in recent years that has been enveloped with the discussions of climate change and how it can alter the world.

I picked this video because it gave a visual on the processes of photosynthesis, specifically the light reactions and the calvin cycle. It properly visualized, for example, the molecules, such as oxygen and hydrogen, as well as the electrons, in what they do, in addition to speaking about their relationship in photosynthesis. The video also touched on cellular respiration, another process that plants undergo in addition to other organisms, and on how it's a process that involves materials made from photosynthesis, that being glucose. Lastly, the video ends with a clear summary about the process, saying on how through carbon dioxide, the sun's energy, and water, plants are able to produce sugar and oxygen, and provide for themselves, and us as well.

What I picked for this assignment is a flower that is found nowhere else in the world but in Georgia. It is an angiosperm that is known by the name of a "Georgia Plume" or "Summer Plume". It's scientific name is Elliottia racemosa. Not only is this dicot only found in Georgia, but it is endangered as well.

Of all the biomes that are in danger of ecological change, there is no other biome in greater threat than the biome I had discussed in Unit 1, that biome being the rainforest. As we learned in this unit, the rainforest is one of the greatest providers of oxygen to our planet, despite only making up 6% of the planet. With this said, it can be clearly seen that what with the loss of trees through fires, this can lead the rainforest to become a desert. This would not only effect the animals and plants that live there, but also greatly harm ecosystems throughout the world, and the planet's overall health. The rainforest being the most diverse biome in animal and plant life could also lead to the extinctions of exotic animals. Therefore, this biome is not only in danger, but has the greatest potential to cause harm if things were to escalate in severity.

The Neolithic Revolution is where the nomadic way of life had changed to a life where people would settle down and create the first established societies. As you can see in this diagram, it shows how we discovered that seeds grow into new plants, and therefore that we can cultivate certain plants in certain spots. This in turn lead us to not have to worry about being hunter/gatherers as much anymore, as we had a source of food that could be replanted and regrown. The worry of where our next meal would be out in the world became less of a big deal. This in turn lead for us to focus on growing ourselves, and therefore, it made the human population increase, despite the fact there came new challenges to the population, such as disease.

I choose the mass irrigation sprinkler for the invention that helped out immensely in the Third Agricultural Revolution. Irrigation is, essentially, the watering of crops. back before the Third Agricultural Revolution, this could be seen as a daunting task, especially if you had large fields of crops. However, with the technology of mass sprinklers watering large patches of crops, this task proved to be effortless in comparison. This not only allowed farmers to have an easier job and essentially no longer have to rely on rain as much, but it can be assumed that this allowed them to expand their fields to even greater lengths that before then would of been unimaginable. This is why I chose this, because if it weren't for an invention that could provide basic nutrients to a crop, we wouldn't be as productive as the way we are today in terms of agriculture.

For the influential plant-based drug, I decided to pick Taxol. Taxol is derived from the Yew tree, and it has been shown to slow cancerous growths. This has had some history of controversy, as in order to get Taxol is to essentially harm the Yew tree that it is derived from. Despite this controversy, however, it has been show to be effective, as can be seen in this image provided below that depicts the process of Taxol coming from the Yew tree and being used in the experimentation of mice that have cancerous growths inside of them. It showcases on how this drug has infact a method of being used and harvested, as well as something that has been clinically tested to help us resist cancer, a lifelong enemy of public health that the world has tried to eradicate for so long.

I picked this image because it's a great example of the potential that this world could become if we don't keep mass corporate farming in check. Desertification is a process that is growing larger and larger by the day, what with us essentially striping the land of it's valuable minerals and ecosystems. Furthermore, carbon emissions are essentially killing plant life, what with fires becoming more and more frequent. It would be no surprise to see large swaths of pure barren desert in the future if we don't keep things in check.
