Banksy describes this piece to be "from the bad old days". In the past, only the rich people like the royals and the pope were able to pay for portraits of themselves. Now, anyone is able to get their portraits taken. The maid here, is someone who Banksy met in a hotel room in Los Angeles.

While Da Vinci's Mona Lisa appears graceful and passive, Banksy give her a more powerful look. Her facial expression remains as a calm as the original. But when she holds the weapon, her expression seems more menacing. This teaches that even the most calm, simple people can become someone they are not when removed from their tranquil lives.

This piece shows some positivity between what human behaviors are. Many people are told to be good and be happy, but end up doing the opposite. Actions speak louder than words. People should make sure that their actions don't contradict their words.
