For a Toddler, Seriation will be as simple as asking them to arrange boxes or stuffed animals from smallest to largest. As they are playing with the objects the teacher can observe for the concept of seriation by saying to an older toddler, Can you u help me put your (stuffed animals/blocks) in order from smallest to largest?” Start with one object, then ask, “Which one is thenext largest?” and so on. For toddlers, the use of easy objects that they are very familar with like the blocks or the stuffed animals in the class is much better for them to be able to grasp the concept of seriation.

For kindergartners, the concepts and activities used to explain seriation could be very easy or more tasking. Since they will have a better understanding of that concept by then. We can use blocks with the kindergartners and there are many games and activity that can come out from a seriation lesson like the shoe sort and to play this game, , you will need a baby shoe, a small woman’s shoe, and a large man’s shoe. Show the children the three shoes. Have them arrange the shoes from the smallest to the largest or the largest to the smallest. This activity can also be done with other clothing, such as shirts or pants. Another can be another great hands on activity to help the children begin to understand the concept of seriation. First, choose three children who are visually different in height (small, medium, large). Arrange the children in order from either the smallest to the tallest or the tallest to the smallest. Once the children are arranged, encourage the remaining children to describe the sizes they see. Repeat this procedure with a different group of children.
