Professionalism in early childhood education is more than just a title or a degree—it is a continuous commitment to growth, ethics, and advocacy. When I first started in this field, I believed professionalism was primarily about credentials. Over time, I learned that being a professional means embracing lifelong learning, building meaningful relationships, and making ethical decisions that prioritize children's well-being.

One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned is that professionalism is not just about what we know, but how we apply that knowledge with integrity, reflection, and respect for diversity. Whether it’s engaging with families, collaborating with colleagues, or making decisions that impact children’s learning, professionalism is a daily practice. Professionalism is not a destination—it’s a lifelong journey of learning, growing, and advocating for the best outcomes for children and families

It also includes how we talk about our profession to others, and how we can advocate for those who do not have a voice (e.g. children, families, underserved or marginalized individuals).
