For me, practicing self care will look like reading more fictional books rather than only academic materials during the semester. This helps me relax and create space for myself. I can also ensure that I am getting regular sleep through efforts on maintaining a sleep schedule and routine.

Reflection on Importance of Self-Care in the Helping Profession

The biggest takeaway from the resources provided for me was that we bear a large mental load that can sometimes be damaging (absorbing secondary trauma). Another aspect that stuck with me is that counseling professionals are people that others trust with their most important ideas and secrets.
