Hello, I'm a Turkish girl who named Ela. You guys know that every country and the world has its own stereotypes. Of course Turks have them too. Let's see the three stereotypes and let me tell you what the truth actually is.

1) Turks are Governed By Sharia

I heard it from the media and this is very wrong! We are not a ignorant society. There are those who think that Turkey is governed by Sharia, but Turkey is a secular country!

2)Turks are Foul-Mouthed

Actually Turks don't swear a lot. Of course in Turkey, we have rude people too. But we have very polite people too. So it's wrong to generalize. We also have many multicultural and knowledge people too.

3)Turks do not Value Women

It's wrong too! As a secular country, Turks do value women very much! We even have the women heros, Women also fought in our independence. Women's are strong in our history. Also, our precious leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk said "Oh, hero Turkish woman, you can't drag on the ground, You are worthy to rise to the heavens on the shoulders." that.

Also, Turkish woman was the first to get the right to vote and right to be elected in history.

Hi!I'm Hasan.I think stereotypes are theories that an individual creates about an individual/society without knowing it.For example, there are people in the world who think that we Turks always eat kebap,Turks wear fez.

Stereotypes From Türkiye

Hi,I am Elif.I think is that stereotypes can be subjective or objective.Because everyone can decide for themselves. For example, men drive better than women.I think this is a subjective stereotype. Some stereotypes are true and some are false. For example let me tell you a misunderstood stereotype about Turkey.Turks eat kebab every meal, yes, our kebab is famous but we don’t always eat it.In another stereotype,Turks ara hospitable, yes, mostly we are.So, this is a true stereotype.
