Ultimate Frisbee Strengths Explained

1 - One of my strengths is the front hand pass and this is shown on the notational analyse. However, on this analyse i only was marked down for 3 identified front hand passes, but the game was very short which highlights not everyone in the team got many passes. The front hand pass is an essential skill in Ultimate Frisbee and it allows you and your team to move up the pitch efficiently. An example of my performance in a game was when i gave a front hand pass to another team mate, and this was near the end zone which they carried on to pass to another player to score. Therefore, my pass was accurate to the player and enabled us to score a point for the team.

2 - Another strength in Ultimate frisbee was catching. This is shown on the notational analyse and the video analyse. Catching is a important skill required in the game so your team can progress up the pitch and maintain possession of the frisbee. An example in a game was when i long pass was thrown towards me, i caught the frisbee and this enabled my team to hold on to the possession of the frisbee and carry on the pass to another team mate in order to try and score a point. In Ultimate Frisbee, once the frisbee lands on the ground turn over is made and the other team gain possession, therefore having my strength in catching supported my team to maintain the frisbee and to not lose a point.

Ultimate Frisbee Weakness Explained

1 - Curl pass was highlighted as one of my weaknesses. This is illustrated in the notational analyse and the video analyse as i don't actually attempt a curl pass. This is lead to confidence problems as i do not want to let my team down if the curl pass didn't go accurately. Therefore this indicates i do not have the curl pass technique and attempting this pass in a game can lead to an interception or loss of the frisbee and then our team will lose possession. The curl pass in Ultimate Frisbee allows you to pass to a player on your team will avoiding defenders, as the pass curls around the defender.

2 - Blocking was also indicated as one of my weaknesses and this was shown in the notational analyse and the video footage. I don't have the correct timing and technique to be able to block a pass, therefore this allows the other team to successfully pass down the pitch to their players and score. Also, this highlights a lack of confidence in jumping for the frisbee at the right time in order to block the pass, whether this is when the other team are about to score or just moving around the pitch. Blocking enables your team to gain possession of the frisbee or stop the team from scoring a point.

Ultimate Frisbee SMART Targets to Improve

In Ultimate Frisbee i need to improve on my curl pass. This is a pass with a technique that needs to be practised and overloaded for progression. Over 6 weeks, i will involved drills in my training which will be completed 3 times a week and for 45 minutes. The training will consist of curl pass related and the first drill will start with three players, two attackers and one defender, you simply pass to your other attacker but using the curl pass technique to avoid the defender in the middle. This will carry out for 20 minutes with swapping around the players so everyone gets a turn in different positions. This is specific to a Ultimate frisbee game as you will need this technique and to deal with the pressure of the defender in a game. Having a 2 minute break after this drill may be needed to regain your 100% effort. The next drill will include 6 players and you will have an area to work in, playing 3 against 3 you will need to work with your other players to get the frisbee in the end zone to score, only curl passes are allowed and if not then a turn over is given to the opposite team. This is realistic to real game play and supports team work in accurately using the curl pass to score points, the drill will last for 15 minutes. In the last 5 minutes of the training session, a game should be played. Therefore, everything you worked on in the session can be used into the game and 3 curl passes for every player is a target. This training sessions will help me improve on my curl pass technique and efficiently use it in a game. To measure this improvement i will set a target and in the next 3 Ultimate Frisbee games i will complete another notational analysis and i am required to complete at least 3 curls passes in each game.

Blocking in Ultimate Frisbee needs to improved. Over 6 weeks i will carry out drills focussing on blocking in training sessions, this will last for 30 minutes and include two 15 minute drills, the training sessions will be completed 2 times a week. The first drill will include three players, two attacking and one as a defender, while the two attackers pass the frisbee among themselves in a given area, the defender has to try and block the passes. This will help improve on timing when to jump and block the pass and also continuously try and block the pass will progress my technique for this and my confidence once i have efficiently blocked a pass. During that drill a break may be needed to be taken in order to carry out performing at a high intensity. Furthermore, the next drill will include a group of 6-8, there are two lines of either 2 or 3 attackers on each side, then two defenders in the area they are using. One of the attackers in the line starts with the frisbee and the first two on each line have to pass among each other in the area over an end zone, while the defenders are trying the block the passes. Then this carries on with the next people in the line. This improves blocking passes realistic to a game play situation and supports teamwork which is important in a game. To measure my improvement of blocking in Ultimate Frisbee i will again complete a notational analysis after the next 3 games and aim to get at least 4 blocks in each game.

Justification of Target for Ultimate Frisbee

To improve my curl pass in Ultimate Frisbee, i chose two drills that include specific skills which will be required in a game, such as practising the curl pass when defenders are marking you and team work to indicate that you will be carrying out a curl pass. This is important in a game as it allows your team to progress up the pitch with still avoiding the defenders and working as a team to help each other and score points. Practising with the curl pass with defenders helps increase my confidence in a game to carry out this action because, i have overloaded this technique in training that it is now accurately performed, also after these training sessions i will be able to cope with the stress more easily in a game and can effectively complete the curl pass without making mistakes. I decided to complete the training three times a week because this gives me a chance to practice and improve each week, and also i can reflect on each session from feedback of the coaches or other players. Three times a week allows me to successfully overload and progress on the curl pass, but its not too much that i will become bored of the training and that can result in lack of effort of technique. I will complete the training session for 45 minutes, considering this supports an achievable time in order to improve the pass and progress into specific understanding of the pass which will be used in a game. The first drill i gave a duration of 20 minutes as this involves basic movements that can help improve confidence in using a curl pass and to allow a move around in positions, so 20 minutes helps the players get comfortable with completing the curl pass in time to practise working with a different player. The second drill lasts for 15 minutes as this is because it requires more moving around within a team and using the curl pass only. 15 minutes for this drill allows the players to work at their maximum effort before getting fatigue and it helps them identify when and how to use the curl pass, therefore 15 minutes give plenty of time for the players to gain a greater understanding in a game play situation, but its not too long for them to get bored and start to lose focus. I decided to add a game at the end of the session because it is 5 minutes of intense play, and helps support confidence in using the curl pass and improves with dealing with stress when wanting the complete the pass. Also,, it gives motivation an practise with using the knowledge that was learnt in the drills and bring it into game play. Lastly, i am going to use the notational analysis to measure my progress in performing the curl pass, as it is an accurate source and can be done by someone watching me play or videoing myself play and i do the analysis, therefore i can see why i may not perform a successful curl pass in a situation. The 6 weeks that i will complete all of this training will help me to progress and eventually complete the curl pass accurately under pressure just like in a game.

For improvement in blocking i will train for 30 minutes, this will help me have enough time to successfully practise blocking and use it game scenarios. This duration is a suitable time to not get bored with the drills and slack in my maximum effort or technique, therefore this allows for my blocking to be improved and to understand the requirements needed, such as timing and speed to block a pass. I chose to complete the training sessions twice a week because, this will help me with knowledge and improvement in blocking and also, allow myself to put maximum effort into each training session, whereas training four times a week will create boredom in the sessions and i may not improve if i don't put my full effort into the sessions. Also, completing blocking training sessions twice a week is an easy number to fit around any other responsibilities i have, therefore it is accurate and achievable. For the two drills i will carry them out for a duration of 15 minutes each. This is an realistic time to maintain at a maximum effort and enables me to have a chance in figuring out the technique for blocking and improving my timing in when to block a pass each time. Also, 15 minutes will not allow me to get bored of the repetitive drill, however it is overloading throughout the drill but this supports improvement in blocking and the confidence to block as well during a game. The first drill i included only three players so there will be more work to do, as the defender has to mark two players and adjust to their passes in order to attempt a block. Furthermore, this drill is helping improvement of speed and timing of each block attempt, therefore it indicates that marking the space and notifying where the pass is going to go is maybe a better option than marking a player. On the other hand the second drill includes more teamwork and working together to mark and block the passes to stop the two attackers from scoring. I chose this drill as it relates to a real game and it helps with teamwork, and improves the control of stress when you are trying to stop the other team from scoring. Overall, these training sessions can also help me with gaining feedback from the coach or other players on things that i need to be improved on for next session, so this allows more progression on the technique. These sessions will enable more confidence in attempting to block in a game and to deal with stress much easier, as i will have over practised blocking within a team and alone. Lastly, i chose to complete a notational analyse again after the next three games, as this is a reliable source to measure my progress for blocking in a game. As well i gave myself a target to achieve at least 4 blocks in each game because, this is believed as a realistic goal in order for myself to accomplish and this will improve my confidence and motivation in a game to attempt the block, as i have practised it so much in training i will be able to successfully complete it. I will complete all of this improvement over 6 weeks, as that is an accurate time for myself to progress in order to complete the goal i set when i have finished. 6 weeks gives me a set date to work hard during each session and gain enough experience in blocking to get 4 blocks in each three games after the training is complete.
