all sports programs should carry out a blood born pathogen exposure plan. all open woulds or lesions should be covered with dressing that does not allow transmission from one athlete to another. if bleeding occurs, then the athlete should be removed from the sport and can return when the wound is properly dressed. if blood is on a uniform, you should use bleach or hydrogen peroxide to get the stain off. anything that came in contact with the wound including yourself should be washed quickly after with soap and water or hand sanitizer if soap and water is not nearby.
