(ii) I believe that activity diagram is the most useful as it will help to clearly differentiate the workflow of each user in the system  

- Swim Lane Diagram is more focused on the interaction between object or user in a flow of a use case or feature in the system

- Activity diagram is a basically a flowchart of an activity flow in the system. It may also contain a “swim lane” diagram partition.

The most suitable diagram from those 3 for this case studies is I think the “Activity” diagram. Cause, the only activity described in the case studies is loaning a book & reserving it thus, “Use Case” diagram which best when focused more on how actors interact with a lot variety of activities, not really match with this case studies.

“Activity” diagram which is best at describing the flow of a specific activity is more preferable in this case. It can also include the partition to describe which part of flow performed in a certain object, which is a feature that a “swim lane” diagram have. While basically the same “Activity” diagram which use flowchart is more understandable and more detailed than “swim lane” diagram.

Activity diagram is a model that represents the series of actions of flow control in a system similar to a flowchart.

Swim lane diagram is a type of flowchart that delineates who does what in a process. 

The diagram is suitable to represent existing business process of university library is Activity Diagrams, because there are many partitions and can group different responsibilities of each partition.

So, in this case, an association class should probably be created for loaned books. 

 

If a patron wants a book that is already checked out, the patron can put that title on reserve. This is another class that does not represent a concrete object. Each reservation is for only one title and one patron. Information such as date reserved, priority, and date fulfilled is maintained. When a book is fulfilled, the system associates it with the loan on which it was checked out.
