In my opinion this advertisment was incredible. I think Gillette has a lot of influence and impact on the picture of men in society as Gillette sells razors mostly for men – which means in every advertisement they make they say something about the role of men. The message they are delivering here is to some extent the opposite of the usual male stereotypes. They highlight gender issues – affecting both men and women. They show how important it is to educate boys in the right way, to teach them that violence is not okay, even if they are fighting with a friend „for fun“. In the TV-spot there are shocking scenes showing how men are sexually harassing women and shocking scenes of children and teenagers being bullied. In the end someone (mostly men) is interfering and solving the situations, rescuing the victims. This shows the audience that everyone can do something individually in order to change these problems in our society. I love the ending: when they show how important it is that everybody contributes in order to solve these issues because children – in this video they only speak of boys – are watching and they should learn that violence, bullying, sexual harassment etc. in not okay and these boys will be adult men eventually.

The cut of the advertisment is also amazing: showing science of daily life where problematic behavior is occurring, then switching to a scene speaking of sexual harassment. Furthermore I love the audio-cut, how various audio tracks are played at the same time. This is very impressive. Especially the narrator in the video, commenting what is happening gives one the impression that he is telling a story. Storytelling is a tool, that is very suited to use in advertisment in order to reach the audience- All in all, I think it grabs the attention of the audiences and touches the emotions of people watching very much.

The product is not really in the focus of this advertisment. But I argue that Gillette is that well known for his product, that there is no need to tell the audience about their product. I think it is great that Gillette uses its influence in order to highlight this gender issue, showing that many problems women have nowadays are a result of the „wrong“ education of children, especially boys. It shows, we should teach our children the right values – and these are the same for boys and for girls (e.g. that everybody can be strong, that physical violence is not okay, how everybody should be taken seriously etc.)

Regarding the gender perspective, I think it is excellent. The idea of a restaurant serving foods named after the problems of women is very creative. In this way, the producers could highlight so many different aspects of women’s problems and stereotypes.

I like how they outlined how some women don’t want to follow the typical stereotypes like „I am not getting married because I don’t feel like it“ or „I am a world CEO and mother“. One woman stated that she is allergic to social pressure. I think this was a very smart way of highlighting the cause of so many problems that women have.

When it comes to conveying the message of feminism – it is done excellently. However, conveying the message about the product didn’t succeed in my opinion. After watching the video, I honestly didn’t have any idea what this food is that is advertised there. Furthermore I don’t understand what it has to do with the expectations of society regarding women. Moreover, I don’t think the beginning of the advertisements grabs the attention of the audience so well as the video is quite dark and chaotic. I think it would have been better to start right away with the restaurant because it is only then that things are getting to start interesting. To sum up, looking at the gender aspect, I think it could have a strong impact. Considering the advertisement for the product however, I don’t think it succeeded in informing the audience about the product.

Considering the gender perspective I think the creator has done a good job. The start of this video is very sweet and the attention of the audience is grabbed by the nice little girl. The child schema is often used in advertisments as human beings have a special emotional response to it.

Specifically highlighting the strength of girls and women in the area of sports is a smart move of Nike because in this way they make the connection to the products of Nike and the brand. e.g. you can see the logo of Nike on the shoes of the girl in the end. Also, it plays with the slogan „Just do it “ and makes it into „Your are made of what you do“. Certainly, the advertisment delivers emotional components for the brand perception.

I think the little story is done very nice: It starts with a realistic scene – a sweet girl entering the stage. At the beginning she fits quite well into the gender stereotype of an „ideal“ sweet little girl: wearing an innocent dress, well behaved with a soft, gentle voice. When she describes in the song what a girl is made of and sings for example „made of flowers“, the audience is delighted. Then she surprises the audience when she describes characteristics that are not typically associated with a girl: strong, made of iron etc., while she envisions different female athletes. In the end there is another plot twists: The little girl is actually playing football. The audience is left to interpret it: Maybe the scene on the stage was never happening, it was just going on in her head in order to motivate herself and give her strength.

I love how the advertisement suddenly starts breaking all the typical stereotypes. The surprise of the audience might reflect the reaction of society when confronted with this character traits that are atypical for the female stereotyp.

I remember the discussions I had on this advertisement when it first came out, I remember how a lot of men felt attacked by Gillette and I was simply astonished by the resistance this ad encountered. I think is a remarkable piece of advertising because it appeals to the morals of men. The Me 2 movement was a pivoting moment in our history because it showed a “culture” of harassing, and I know that not all men approved of that, but the majority wasn’t aware. Through this ad Gillette is trying to make them an active part of this whole process and it tells them, explicitly “men need to hold other men accountable” to really make a change. The emotional background of this ad is fascinating because it not only says we believe that you can do things better, but also brings the fatherhood in the spotlight.

I love this ad! I like how very creatively conveys the struggle that women encounter daily. The beginning is very chaotic in comparison to the rest of the advertisement, but I think this decision to make them so different was beneficial for the overall message: that’s how the mornings of a mother look like and this is what effects has on them. The ending really moved me, when the cook was surprised how good the business worked and the other women said: Of course, we are 15 million women. To think that 15 million human beings need everyday to deal with this enormous social pressure that is just rising day after day is terrifying.

I don’t think the purpose of this ad was to sell Campofrio’s ham, because how Viktoria said I really struggle to link them. I feel this is an ad to raise awareness on this topic and contribute to this process of deeply liberating women from the previous expectations.

The beginning made me think of the “well-behaved” quote we commented in class. The little girl was receiving audience’s approval when she was stinking to “the script” of what a girl is made of, but as soon as she broke the rules, the audience was clearly upset. To be an athlete you need to put in the hours, you need resilience, and you need discipline whatever your gender is. Nike’s slogan You are made of what you do really enforces that because it forces the public to acknowledge female athletes and their journey and not minimize it.

I think that the whole performance was in her head as she needed some encouragement for her football match. Another strong move from Nike was to choose football as the “main” sport, a sport that is male dominated. Also, I liked how the advertisement closes right before the goal, it leaves us with sort of an open ending, because after that performance the result can only be one: she scored the goal.

I liked to see these advertisements. Especially the one of Gilette. At the contrary, I haven’t liked the one in response to Gilette. It is made as there was a war between men and women and I don’t think that’s right. The Gilette ad’s purpose is made to raise awareness about what has been done wrong and how men are able to change meanwhile the response to the Gilette’s ad is doing like Gilette’s has attacked men and insulted them. I don’t think that Gilette wanted to say that men are bad. I mean, nobody has said that men are bad people who are doing bad things to the society. Of course there are strong and fierce firefighter. Yet, when they get home, they still can beat their wives and not take care of their children. I think that this ad is really mixing up things and inciting people to think that this is a binary world where there are or men or women who can lead the world but that they can not cohabitate with the same rights. When Gilette is raising awareness on sexual abuses and men not respecting women, the response ad’s acts as if we were insulting men while Gilette was just bringing facts.

I loved how the Gillette commercial focused both on men's interaction with men and with women. They challenged the saying that "boys will be boys" which is a very toxic excuse to start with. Gillette also hinted that women can't stop inequality and harassment by themselves, men need to be involved as well, men need to challenge their own gender. This commercial reminded me of a recent post I saw on Instagram: "Your father and your brother both get protective when you bring a boyfriend home. Therefore even men don't trust men"

I have to say I like the Gillette ad a lot. Especially the message "the boys of today, are the men tomorrow". With that point they are going to tell us, that when we show our kids today that men and women are equal and everybody should be treated with respect. They are hopefully going to do that as well when they're older. In that way we could minimize gender inequality.
Furthermore the main topic of this advertisement "the best men can get" is also a strong statement. They are challenging men to have a better behavior, support gender equality, be less violent and that they should not look away anymore, when they see e.g. sexual harassment, like men starring at the ass of women.

I agree with the comments above. But I also think that the ad was successful in selling the product since they want to hint that with campofrio women might be less stressed because ham is a ready product which doesn't need preparation and can be quickly added to meals. But maybe the company didn't want to hint so much about their product, but rather their beliefs, which not necessarily need to link to their product. The idea about the restaurant was brilliant, maybe they should have put some men in it as well with dishes having opposite names of female stress factors.

The commercial starts showing recurring situations today, such as sexual harassment, the objectification of the female body, the violent attitudes of men, bullying, among other things and as this is perpetuated, boys will always be raised in the same way and that needs to change, men need to be held accountable and must try to think and act differently, in the right way. And finally, the message that passes is very important because it shows that we can be our best version so that we can also teach children how to be better.

And that it is okay that they do not correspond to the social pressures imposed on women, they do not need to marry and have children to be happy, nor are they solely responsible for the activities of the home and the care of children, and their partners must also do so, women can be successful in the business world and that age marks are also normal, among other situations that women have to face.

In my opinion, this commercial was undoubtedly the best! It gave me chills for the sensitivity that was presented to the strength of women. At first, it seems innocent, reinforcing gender stereotypes, a cute girl singing that women are made of flowers, rings, and gossip (gender prejudices based on femininity that is imposed on us) and then other women come in and this girl also changes ( we could compare it to reality, that women's representativeness and strength inspire and shape girls), based on that, she presents some of the various qualities that make up women, such as self-dedication, perseverance, the battles we fight, independence and freedom, and with that we can also see that the audience, representing society, is shocked by the presentation, to see that women are not only what the patriarchy imposes.

The gillette commercial is beautiful, it is a brand present in the lives of men from all cultures around the world, many boys dream of the day that they will use the brand products as their parents use, therefore the emotional impact caused by the commercial of mark can be quite deep. In my country, Brazil, it is common to call a razor only a gillette (even if it is from another brand). When such a traditional brand speaks openly that behavior "it cannot remain the same" is very significant, it reaches audiences of various ages and cultures, the responsibility that concerns man must be demanded in society instead of continuing to naturalize immature behavior.

The identification of the modern woman with the commercial is inevitable. As much as the reality of the woman's life has been changing since ancient Greece, where the woman occupied a position equivalent to that of the slave, we are far from having a routine with activities balanced with men. Not only is physical exhaustion exhausting, but also the high mental burden of routine control, it is very common that even if the husband participates in the household routine, he expects the wife to "ask him to do something", he even gives the medication the child but who knows the medicine to be given is usually just the mother, they usually put clothes to wash but after the wife teaches how to separate the clothes to put in the machine, all this routine control generates a lot of mental wear, the education of the boys must be different so that in adulthood they can offer a balanced routine with their girlfriends or wives.

The commercial allows girls to dream and realize that their dreams are possible even if they don't get everyone's approval. The girl who breaks the rules of the performance may be criticized by some of the audience but she has a prominent place, she gets what she wants, and all eyes are on her. It is inspiring not only for young girls but also for adult women who continue to challenge society on a daily basis seeking opportunities and equal treatment.

One sentence particularly appealed to me: "The boys of today will be the men of tomorrow". This means that women cannot stop all inequalities and harassment by themselves, men also have a role to play, a cause to defend.

This product being ham, it does not require as Viliana says a lot of preparation and thus allows them to decompress without having to work on a complex meal. Denouncing the oppressive emotions that women feel on a daily basis through a scene in a restaurant is an interesting idea. This allows the viewer to watch this commercial carefully, to listen and understand how the women may feel while having a fun time.

Gillette is a company specialized in products for men, particularly razors. When I think of the advertisements they used to make, I saw that men were very virile, muscular, and sometimes women appeared on the screen, supposedly admiring their beauty but rather an accessory than a person. The advert 'the best men can be' primarily shows toxic forms of masculinity, bad behavior such as harassment, vulgarity, fighting. After a few minutes, we see a transformation of these behaviors, men are more respectful towards women and no longer fight. The fathers show a good example for their children and come to the rescue of the women. It's a bit exaggerated at times but it's still a good and interesting advert because we need to change mentalities and stop with the stereotypes. However, the white man is still too much in value. Their faces are perfect, their bodies too, we don't see small men, obese men, men from other cultures, gays, trans, etc. We should see all the diversity of men in order to make it more representative of the current reality.

From the first second of the advert, we enter the daily life of a woman where everything goes at a mile an hour. She looks after the children with a certain amount of energy, we also see her behind her computer, probably in the evening, working and sighing. Everything is going very, very fast, we also see sequences where she is cooking, ironing, doing a lot of housework. Then we get to the famous restaurant. A restaurant where everything seems to be calm and where we only see women. The orders they give to the waitress are not common. I couldn't understand everything but the words "social pressure" implicitly helped me to see that women were ordering their problems. All the women in the restaurant seem much more relaxed talking about their issues than when you see them running around and doing a thousand things at home. This ad was interesting because it show the reality some women face.

In this ad, I see the little girl as a mix between stereotypes and realities and the public is the society. The little girl is the symbol of femininity in the face of society through the ages. At the beginning, she seems very calm, says beautiful words, the audience seems conquered and touched, then other women arrive in the public but not on the scene, they are showing various sports representing the strengths of the woman invisible to the eyes of the society. Indeed, women are not only gentle, pleasant and "in line". She is also strong, independent, ambitious, etc. My criticism of the Nike advert is that it shows women with "perfect" bodies when this does not represent the current reality. As we advance in the video, it becomes much more dynamic and the girl is accompanied by several other little girls, which represents the fact that there are now several of us showing the strengths of women. The diversity of women and perhaps also their weaknesses are still missing to break some of the taboos.

I noticed the phrase "Men need to hold other men accountable". This is a wonderful and real thing. Gilette has exceeded all limits with this advertisement, because this company has a great impact all over the world, and the approach to such a subject is bold. They showed another face of masculinity, showing how things should be and implicitly attracting more and more men. Also, this approach is totally different from the usual advertisements for this type of product."The boys watching today, will be the men of tomorrow" encourages youth to a better world. The fact that advertising shows us men who have evolved, become respectful, fathers who set good examples for their children is the reality that should surround us.

I thought it was incredibly effective at portraying the worries and gender stereotypes that women can face . I admired how the advertising was honest at the beginning of the advertisement when it showed the reality of being a mother and how chaotic it can be at times. It did not sugarcoat this reality or try to paint motherhood as something which is glamorous which in the past was apparent in ads. The advertisement reinforced the humanity of mothers , how they can be both the one to hold everything together at home and also have a life outside of the home. I do not think the main purpose of this advertisement was to sell a food product, I think it was more so do to with liberating women from what was previously expected of them and unfortunately in some cultures still expected .

A girl is walking on stage and starts singing a full-of-stereotypes-about-women song, which lyrics change when the sportswoman enters the theatre. Women are made of iron, self-dedication, perseverance, and many more. The scene is getting more and more powerful, sportswomen appear everywhere, behind the singing girl we see the choir. Only the audience seems to be confused. In the end, the girl gets a football, she closes her eyes, and when they are open, she is at the football pitch ready to shoot. The message is simple: Women can do sports. They can do everything. They are as capable as men. Believe in more. We see dismantling stereotypes and a complex vision of strong, powerful women.

This advertisement had a major impact on me. I thought it was incredibly effective at breaking down gender stereotypes. At the beginning of the advertisement it reminded me a lot of the quote that we mentioned in class about * well behaved women*. When the girl was singly sweetly and softly , the audience were content. As the music began to come to a crescendo , there was a complete change in tone as many women began to show different insights into what women can and are. I thought it was powerful when the athletic woman stripped her top off to show her sports bra and it portrayed a sense of pride. This advertisement showed how each woman can be whatever they want to be. The slogan was beautiful - * You're made of what you do- Believe in more*. The advertisement left me thinking back to my early childhood when I was told all I could be was the girl on stage that looked pretty. I distinctly remember asking a teacher what my role in the school play was and they said * just stand there and look pretty for your prince* and I told her that I wanted to be involved with the directing and she told me that was a job for the men. If I had seen this advertisement when I was younger it would have empowered me and so many other girls.

When the little girl starts singing things that are confortable to listen for the audience, all the people feels good because she is "well-bevahed". And when she starts singing in a strong tone with powerful words people get confused. Nike knows exaclty what to say and how to say it because they have some strong values as a company.

While watching the Gillette commercial, I had mixed feelings. For me, it feels like they wanted to do a good thing, but the narrative they chose is not the best. 'Educate your son' attitude and fighting toxic masculinity is crucial. However, as I see it, these actions are not the main point of the ad. The most significant thing seems to be that men can get better. Not act or do better. It sounds like talked-about: #notallmen. The "get better" here means to finally not be associated with sexual harassment or abuse or bullying.

Additionally, I do not think that men need to hold other men accountable. Every man should know how to behave and be responsible for himself. And it does not mean being passive and do nothing when someone sees another person acting outrageously.

I do not want to be misunderstood here. According to my thinking, the idea that by challenging ourselves, we become better people, in this case, boys become decent men in the future, is marvelous. Being active, not passive when we see inappropriate behavior, too. It feels like these things are not the main point. This ad is not the best example of a social campaign. Is it really a challenge to behave appropriately? It should be natural, not let's be better since it's good for us, since we should get better.

Maybe my opinion is a bit affected by the recent events and debates around sexual harassment and abuse. And it makes me more critical. No idea.

I would like to stress out that I did not know the story behind the commercial. As I found out, plenty of men were offended by the shown picture. They were defending their masculine behaviors.

The fascinating thing for me is that our opinion is connected to the perspective we choose and the things we are aware of.

I liked this ad the best of the three. At the beginning the girl stands on stage and sings. Before she changes her lyrics she gets some encouragement. After she was motivated by the ice artist to sing about what women are really made of. The comparison that women are similar to flowers but also that they are made of gossip, which is definitely a very negative aspect in my eyes, to women being made of iron, being self-dediacted, possessing skills, possessing grace, dignity, independence to name a few. Also the reference to bruises and punches was interesting. I interpret that to mean that women have to endure a lot of suffering. I also think the connection to sport is a good idea, because women are neglected here too. That's why I found it very interesting when the girl was standing on a football field. You could also have chosen a sport that is typical for girls, but in my opinion football was chosen deliberately because it is a male-dominated sport. The message of the ad was very clear.

I think the advertising is very great. Especially because the man, at his best, does not necessarily have anything to do with their product, where shaving is usually considered hygienic and attractive. The focus is mainly on the behavior of a man that makes him the best man and not his appearance. The focus is also that a man does not take the excuse “boys will be boys” and excuse his misbehavior with it. Above all, I like that the misbehaviors of men are corrected by other men. And the statement is shown more strongly that the best man you can be is the man who actively does something about it and corrects other men of their misbehavior and doesn’t just look away or say “boys will be boys”.

I think that for too long 'boys will be boys' has been used as an excuse for this, and challenging this rhetoric hopefully means that young boys who are growing up nowadays won't have the same toxic masculinity that we have seen in men previously. I think that it's important that the advert challenges men to play their part when it comes to women's issues, as even if a man is not guilty of harassment, small acts like passive comments can lead to gender based violence eventually.

I think that is an issue as it leads to women growing up, and people expecting them to be pleasant and agreeable and not cause any issues. For example, if a woman disagrees, especially in the workplace, they can be seen as being 'difficult' or bossy, therefore I think that it is important to challenge these stereotypes for young girls. The advert shows that girls can be other things, that have previously been linked to boys, like strong. I think it's a great advert because it shows that girls can be both feminine and gentle, but also be strong.

I enjoyed this advert as it showed that being a housewife is not at all an easy job, as many people think it is. There are so many jobs to do and it can be very chaotic. It shows that there can be a lot of judgement of mothers and social pressure, and sometimes they feel like they're not allowed to just relax. I feel like when people go out to work, it is seen as understandable to want to relax when you get home from work, but the expectation for stay-at-home mothers is different, so they hardly ever get time to themselves.

I think this ad is a success. Indeed, thanks to the contrast created between the beginning of the video where we see the little girl singing, which represents the societal norms where girls have to do girls' activities, with the music that accelerates as we go along the video where we see all the sportswomen and that concludes with the little girl on a football field, which shows that all sports can be practised by all.

I find this advertisement very interesting because it show the influence of the media and the people around who condition men little by little to follow sexist and egotistical ideas and then adopt sexist behaviour. But it can also have a positive and opposite impact because it is by acting and showing the example that we encourage the people around us to act as well and to stop have sexist behaviour.

This advert is interesting because it reflects the pressure and stress that a woman can have in her life in general. Here the situation is illustrated by a housewife, who has to deal with a lot of things at the same time, contrary to what many people may think, it is not easy. It shows that a housewife's job is just as complicated as any other job
