I am currently reading a book called Black Radishes. I am going to write a summary of what I read during the last three chapters. Gustave was going to his boy scout to play a game called, scavenger hunt. Gustave, Marcel, and Jean Paul are one team. They are called the Eagles. So they are vs other teams in the scavenger hunt game. After, the Eagles and the Bears werw tied for first place. Later Gustave and Marcel and Jean Paul go near a place called, Boulangerie. They were really hungry but they didn't have any poket money in a long time.Once he got home his mama told them that we need to get away from the Nazi's. So they decided to go to America. This is the summary of what I read.

These 3 chapters have been very interesting so far. But, i have a few questions for the book. First, is hitler still alive during this, because i forgot when he died. Also, was he coming to France with the nazi's or staying in Germany? Next, why did civilians hate jewish people even though they were french? Don't Germans only hate jews? Last, is this a true story, or just based on the events of the holocaust but never actually happened?
Also, a fact that I learned from the holocaust museum is that poor jewish communitys or towns are called the ghetto, and that is where the term originally came from. Also, there was this girl named Ann Frank who died in concentration camps, but she kept a diary so her father found the diary and published it as a book. Those are just a few facts that I learned at the museum.
That was my readers response for the book named Black Radishes

So far I have read 3 chapters of the book and it's pretty interesting to me. I will give you a short summary about the book Black Radishes in the first 3 chapters. It takes place in Paris, France during the 1940's. During this period of time, a war takes place in France. Half of France is taken over by the Nazi Germany. Gustave's family is thinking of moving to America because of the war that is going on. Gustave and his family is Jewish and everyone in France hates the Jews. Gustave doesn't want to move because all of his friends are there and he still does not not if they are going to move as well. This book is base on a true story about the Holocause. This is my summary for the first 3 chapters in the book Black Radishes.

I agree with Joel but at the same time I dont because of these reasons. To start, on the back of the book, it hints that Gustave is going to run away and go back to France because his friend Nicole is apart of the resistance. But, he will have to do it very quickly, because he would need to sneak out of the truck before they get to the border of Europe because if they're in America and he tries to escape, it will be impossible. So, before they cross the border of Europe, he would need to be fast. So all in all, he would need to run away in a certain amount of time. That is my readers response for the week

When Gustave finds out he is moving to the countryside he became angry due to the fact that his boy scout team is tied in 1st place with another team, and that his cousins, Jean-Paul and Marcel cant come because there parents said no.

The major conflict in the book is that this book takes place when world war 2 was happening. So in Europe the Germans(Nazis) were trying to take over the whole place and did not like Jewish people but Gustave and his family were Jewish. The Nazis slowly take over a lot of country's like Poland, Austria, Belgium, and more. This made there family move to a place called St. Georges because they were scared the Nazis could attack Paris were they lived before they moved to St. Gorges. The Nazis then attack France were St. Georges was located, so there family has to go to a different place and while they are going the German army attack all of the people or cars in the highway, and there family run to a place to hide. That is the major conflict in the book.

I also do wonder if the author did a lot of research to write this book and if he learned something new while doing it. That is Why I agree to Alex

So far I like how Gustave keeps referring to his friends back at Paris, which are Jean-Paul and Marcel. If I was far away from my friends I would keep referring to them. Now for what I dislike about the book. So far what I dislike about is that the Nazi Germans keep taking over other Countries. But I wouldn't. This is what I like about and dislike about the book.

Question: Major conflict in the story and whoose side you are on.
The Major conflict in book Black Radishes is about the Nazi Germany. The Nazi's took over most countries in Europe like: Norway, Denmark, Czechoslovkia, Austria, Yugoslavia, Greece, The Netherlands, Poland and Luxemburg. The Nazi's also made laws for Jews to follow. One law is: you have to wear a badge that says that you are Jewish, or you will go to concetration camps. I am on the citezen's side because I disagree that you could make laws in other countries if you are not from that country and you are not like a president. I also disagree that you could take over countries. This is the major conflict in the book and whoose side I am on.

Also, the main character's sister in the book Number The Stars was in the resistance and Nicole from Black Radishes. There are lots of similarities on what actually happened in the Holocaust like having to leave their own homes and towns because the Nazi were taking over and also Jews had to go into hiding. He always listens to his parents and to his friends, he seems to always be kind and friendly. My least favorite character is Philippe. I dislike this character, because before in the book Philippe had shoved Gustave into a fountain and ran away. Later in the book he was in Gustave's class. Ever since he shoved Gustave in to the fountain I did not like him. That is the character in the book that I like the most and the character in the book that I like the least.
