First and foremost, in order to conduct the research of the problem, here we were putting the environmental issues as the benchmark. As a student, the clean and comfortable atmosphere is a pleasure for us to be able to learn and live the days in UKM. Thus, the cleanliness of the cafe or in the other food premises in this university are one of the important aspects due to the student activity such as study at the cafe or having a group discussion while eating instead of going to the Perpustakaan Tun Sri Lanang. With an eye to discuss more about food waste that happened in UKM, one of the reasons that give rise to us to meditate there is a problem by the presence of pests, flies and other animals. As everyone knows, that pests are very harmful to the human being as they bring many kind of virus and bacteria that can cause diseases such as diarrhea and many more. The pests are commonly we can see in the dustbin or at the food waste dump near the dustbin area of the cafe or the food premises. Furthermore, the food waste caused a troop of monkey came to the dustbin and causes all of the food waste scattered on the floor. So that indirectly causes the area to become dirty and uncomfortable for the student activity. In the other hand, the students or even the lecturer become uncomfortable either they want to eat or even to do some discussion when the unpleasant smell that comes from the dumping of the food waste that spread out going through their noses. Based on all of these reasons we can conclude that, the food waste is one of the common problem that happen in University Kebangsaan Malaysia. From this point of view, the enigma actually happen at several places in this university such as at the cafe of the college but, our primary intent is at the cafe of Kiosk Fakulti Ekonomi dan Pengurusan. Why we are choosing this kiosk are due to the strategic place which it is located in the middle of three faculty including Fakulti Sains dan Teknologi, Fakulti Ekonomi dan Pengurusan and Fakulti Sains Sosial dan Kemanusiaan and also it quite nearer to the library (Perpustakaan Tun Sri Lanang). Some of the faculty does not had a cafe for the student to get their meal thus they prefer to go to the kiosk which is many stalls nearer so that they can choose like myCafe. Besides, the price for the foods and beverages at there are quite affordable for students. Apart from that, the premises also open for 24 hours which attract more students even the outsider to come and eat there.Based on the findings from interviews with one of the employees at the FEP's Kiosk, for daily working days, the cooked rice for each day is 3 to 4 barrel excluding lunchtime while on weekends, 5 barrels or more depending on the number of students. We also ask whether food wastes are occurring every day. According to the worker, all the rice and the dishes that cooked on that day were forced to throw and also the daily amounts of food wastes are more than 2kg including excess food of the student and also from the Kiosk itself.Actually, the fact that this was an old problem but plus for now it is getting worse. This problem was developed when the consumers of kiosk did not finish their food. The leftovers were thrown to the rubbish bin nearby. As the people keep coming and eating there, the leftovers constantly keep filling until it spilt out from the bin. It even cause more problem when it spread out the bad smell and attracted flies around. Automatically, it disturbed the surrounding and the comfortably while eating. For some people, they gave the leftovers to the hungry cats as they like bones and meat.Students love buy foods at that place and does not finish their foods. Then, their foods will become foods waste if workers just threw that food at rubbish bin. Some students will acting wisely by ask the workers to wrap up their foods or give it to animal such as. However, other students will leave their foods and that make dining table at Kiosk cluttered. That’s why workers have trouble in dealing with students. Based on my research as Kiosk, the workers also have new and old teammates. So, the new of them will act that food just a trash and then they throw it at rubbish bin. However, the old workers find good solution which was they give the foods waste to animals.Food waste is a big problem in college nowadays. It has a big impact on us and environment without realizing. Food waste is an issue that need to be addressed right away. It is a continuing problem at the college which plays major role in harming the environment. The effect of food waste is it can affect to students. The students will feel not comfortable when walking around the kiosk area because of the unpleasant smell and bad view. The dirty environment attract flies, monkeys, cockroaches, mice and others. Without realizing flies, cockroaches and mice can cause food poisoning. The food poisoning is any illness caused by eating food or drink that is contaminated with certain types of bacteria, parasites, viruses or toxins. The food waste at kiosk area is not throw at the right place. Food can become contaminated by contact with pets, flies or other pets. Besides, food poisoning also occur when the food, fruits, vegetables, eggs and water are contaminated with animal manure. Next, flies that around the garbage can also contaminate food at kiosk and caused diarrhea. Furthermore, the excessive waste from the trash can attract monkeys. They eat the leftover food and make rubbish scattered around the area. The workers that collect the rubbish need to take more action every time the monkeys comes to eat as the garbage area become the place they look for food. The food waste problem at the kiosk should be take an action as fast as possible so that it can avoid bad effect to students or lecturers.

1. What did you mean by compost?

Composting is a good way to recycle yard waste such as leaves, twigs, grass clippings, most weeds, and dead houseplants. It is also a clever way to dispose of most food scraps and unwanted leftovers so that your refrigerator doesn't become the compost bin. In your compost bin the unemployment rate is very low. Composting is a means of harnessing a host of highly beneficial micro-organisms and earthworms who would otherwise be sitting around idle and unappreciated. Composting also can be defined as the natural process of decomposition and recycling of organic material into a humus rich soil amendment known as compost. For any business or institution producing food waste, this organic material can be easily decomposed into high quality compost.

2. What food waste from the kiosk FEP cafe that we can compose?

According to the Cornell Waste Management Institute states such all vegetables and fruit wastes even if they are moldy, anything that made out of flour such as old breads, donuts, cookies, crackers, or noodles. Grains such the rice that uncooked or cooked, coffee grounds, tea bags, old spices, outdated boxed foods from the pantry, the egg shells that crush well also can be compost in the compost bin. Grains, unbleached paper napkins, meats and newspaper can be composted. If it can be eaten or grown in a field or garden, it can be composted. Items that cannot be composted include plastics, grease, glass, and metals - including plastic utensils, condiment packages, plastic wrap, plastic bags, foil, silverware, drinking straws, bottles, polystyrene or chemicals. Items such as red meat, bones and small amounts of paper are acceptable, but they take longer to decompose. Add red meat and bones to only a well-controlled compost pile to avoid attracting vermin, pests and insects to partially decomposed meat scraps.

3. How to Store Compostable Food Scraps in correct way?

According to an article entitle Master Composter written by Eco Pulse 2016 Report, it is important for us to know how to Store Compostable Food Scraps in correct way. First and foremost, the scraps can be stored in plastic bags in your refrigerator until used in your compost bin. Secondly, scraps can take up less space if you chop or shred them first during meal preparation. Furthermore, scraps can be stored in a Food Scrap Bucket until taken to your compost bin. A food scrap bucket is simple to locate. Just look for a 4-5 gallon bucket at your local hardware store and keep the bucket near the backdoor of the café or the compost bin.

4. Benefit of compost to the environment

According to the article titled Food Waste Composting: Institutional and Industrial Application written by L. Britt Faucette honoured in Educational Program Specialist, Biological & Agricultural Engineering, turn the food waste into compost brigs some benefit such as water and soil conservation, protects groundwater quality, and minimizes odors from food premises areas. Long-term stable organic matter source. Moreover it also increases soil nutrient content, adds organic matter, humus and cation exchange capacity to regenerate poor soils and reduces fertilizer requirements.

Based on the problem that we have stated before about the excessive amount of food waste at the Kiosk FEP had brought into a solution which is to reduce it by proposing a bin which is a compost bin. The function of this bin works as a place for decomposition of food wastes from students and the Kiosk itself to put the food wastes into this bin, however before that the bin should be put with ready compost. For the decomposition to occur decomposer agents need to be put in the bin and we suggest using fermented soybean as the agent because it is affordable and easy to purchase. Moreover, in the mean time for the compost to decompose it will produce unpleasant smells which later can makes students felt .uncomfortable to eat at the Kiosk. So we decide to put an organic solvent that naturally absorb the smell and to prepare the solvent, we need water and salt which contain leftover vegetables and fruits.
