For my event I will be doing a speech on mental health in Esports/ how Mental health is important in Esports in a conference style. I chose this event due to having knowledge and a background with working with people with mental health issues.

The name for my event is called: "Mind matters: A conversation with Joe on Mental Health in Esports”. I chose this name because it is professional and suits the conference style talk. Additionally, it adds a friendly manner to the whole mood of the conference.

Vision, Mission and Goal of my event:

My Vision for my event is to normalise speaking about Mental Health and to erase the stigma associated with Mental Health. I chose this to be my vision because it’s something that can’t be completed in a day but with generations to come hopefully this is the case.

As for my Mission for my event, this will be to give knowledge to the attendees of the event on different types of Mental Health and how it may affect their lives. I chose this to be my mission because it’s feasible and easily done with me clearly displaying and informing the attendees through doing research and using my own experiences with mental health to complete the mission.

The Goal of my event is to spread awareness on Mental Health and to educate the attendees on how they can help people struggling with their Mental Health. Adding on from the last point, if I do my research into mental health and use my own knowledge this is do-able. I chose this to be my goal because the best way to get someone to understand a topic is to educate them.

When and where will the event be?

The event will be hosted in the Creative Hub at the University of Northampton on Waterside Campus. This is because it is easily accessible for students and attendees to get too due to it being in walking distance from most student accommodation and there is a car park on Campus for the students who drive to university to go.

The event will be at 2 in the afternoon on a Friday. I chose the time and day to be then because at 2 its not to early and in-between lunch and dinner. Also, a Friday is a nice, relaxed day because it is at the end of the week.

Objectives of my event:

Have at least 10 attendees.
Spread awareness and educate the attendees successfully on Mental Health
Promote well-being
Provide practise on practical tools such as: Spotify and
Headspace

My first goal, which is to have at least 10 attendees, will be achievable by marketing successfully using social media and asking in-person to friends, course-mates and lecturers.

As for my second goal which is to spread awareness and educate the attendees successfully on mental health, is feasible by having a Q&A at the end of the presentation to further people’s knowledge on mental health.

Thirdly, the next goal is to promote well-being. This is done by simply giving tips and tricks on how to deal with stress, as stress is a huge trigger for some mental health issues. This falls nicely onto my final goal.
Having practical tools and mindfulness tips such as Spotify and meditating. Spotify is amazing for music but also rain sounds and relaxing sounds. As for free alternatives, meditating and simple tricks for relieving stress will be mentioned in the presentation in order to complete this objective.

1:50pm-2:00pm: Making sure everyone is comfortable and sat down

2:00pm-2:10pm: Introduction to who I am and what the presentation will consist of

2:10pm-2:30pm: Presenting the presentation.

2:30pm-2:45pm: Wrapping things up/ answering questions that the attendees have.

Making sure everyone is comfortable and sat down is a crucial element for my presentation to run smoothly without any interruptions. Same with the introduction to who I am. This is because if I didn’t make sure everyone was comfortable it would show a lack of care and interest in my attendees. My attendees are the most crucial part to my presentation being consumed.

A Mental Health conference in Esports is a relatively new idea that I haven't seen done that much apart from the "GAMES International Mental Health & Sport Conference" in London.

This makes my event unique and as research shows Esports players can suffer with their mental health. This is shown in the study that found out that "37% of a sample of Portuguese electronic football players experienced symptoms of depression and anxiety, whereas 45% experienced symptoms of sleep disturbance" Watson, M (2024).

This means that for me, a positive to take away from that is that I have a lot of information to cover in the presentation.

Additionally, the market is lacking in these sorts of events especially within Esports. Also, with the Esports players typically in their rooms by themselves for long periods of time this can affect their mental health.

Technical Feasibility

The equipment I will need is:

1. A working TV to present on

Chairs for the attendees
Presenter stick to navigate through the slides

This is feasible as their are already chairs in the Creative Hub, a working TV and chairs. However, I will have to book all of these to avoid clashing with other events and so that I have the equipment needed.

Organisational feasibility

"The University has limited parking for visitors at:

Waterside (car park two NN1 5PH) – spaces are limited to visitors attending on University business."

Above is the parking availability for visitors. Visitors can pay for parking. As for students they pay for parking for the academic year anyway so they can park at waterside campus.

For some students, such as the ones who live at scholars green, they get a bus pass or at least a discount on bus tickets.

As for the venue I can't see anything to book the creative hub hall its first come first serve.

Human Resource Management

As stated by Barney, N (2023) HRM is "the practice of recruiting, hiring, deploying and managing an organization's employees."

HR (Human resources) is a department in a business that helps with this.

My HRM plan is to not hire anyone due to me being a student with very limited budget and no sponsors. I could possibly look to hire volunteers but I can do the marketing and presenting my self. Also hiring the venue is a job I can do by myself.

What is an event manager?

An event manager is a person who helps "organise and run conferences, exhibitions, promotions and business and social events" National careers service (2019).

An event manager is really important because they essentially are the heart for the event. To elaborate on this, as stated earlier they help all departments for the event. For example, with my event the marketing would be checked by the event manager to make sure that they are doing the right job./posting the right content.

I will essentially be the event manager so I need to make sure that all tasks, by me, are completed.
