THE FORMAT will be short (less than 10 minutes) listenable podcasts with straightforward personal practices to try, along with some personal reflective writing exercises that we’ll post on our website.

THE CONTENT will be focused teachings on developing healthy perspectives and actions, using insights from across the learning sciences, including neuroscience, cognitive science, meditative sciences as well as depth psychology and Buddhism.

AN INTRODUCTION: We will work towards turning our minds to think differently over the course of one podcast and one day, and then over longer stretches of time – with the ultimate goal to imagine a new path towards a higher self. Pursuing this path for ourselves will transform our view of the world, our ways of interacting with others, our ways of teaching and learning in the world, our ways of regarding and dealing with change and challenge . . . The End game is to not just transform ourselves, but the world.

We’ll be exploring the habits that direct our perspective and outcomes, the causes and conditions of our lives, how we interact and how we change the field and world around us through our unconscious habits

Our challenge is to develop rejuvenating, healthy habits that lead us down the path towards the higher self.

We’re proceeding from the insight that all teaching and learning are relational and occur in relationship. So what all teachers and learners need is a mentor, and a community to help us help ourselves and each other to perform these daily habits of healthy living . . .

So transformation requires a teacher - whether in health care or business, or in education or any other field. Transformation requires developing new habits of mind and body - new strategies and stances . . . In this podcast series we hope to become thinking partners for each other, teaching and learning together in community to pursue new ways of being and doing.

Podcast 1 Practice and Guided Writing

We’d encourage you to write down the key values and priorities for yourself and then to rank them. Maybe do this over the course of a few days because this takes some deep thinking and reflection. Do this exercise when you are in a calm state of mind, perhaps while sipping a cup of tea or taking a walk in the morning or evening. This is the most important practice of your life, whether you know it or not. Whether it is in a time of coronavirus or otherwise. Are you aware of and in sync with your deepest values and commitments? This is where the deep mindfulness begins - right here.

Then, ingrain the following habit in your life: every night, prior to going to sleep, think about how your day went in reference to your values and priorities. Don’t judge yourself, just be with the thoughts. What went well? What could you do better? How well do your daily decisions and actions mirror your deepest commitments and values, and how might they be more aligned? This can help build a habit of mind to always think about your deepest commitments and to try to rise above getting lost in the challenges of the day to day.
