The slavery was one of the biggest reasons why the civil war began. The northern states were not supporters of slavery and thought it to be a violation of human rights whereas the southern states were making a lot of money on slavery and therefore they did not want to make slavery illegal.
One of the most infamous places for slavery was Jamestown, Virginia.
