What parable does "The Seventh Man" tell?

“The Seventh Man” tells the parable of Jonah and The Big Fish. In “The Seventh Man” it shows how turning away from your fears instead of putting your trust in God is “the most frightening we can do” (line 446). The author represents this by showing the effect his best friend’s death had on him and how turning to God was the best decision he could make using the metaphor of the ocean water washing over him almost as a baptism. This tells the parable of Jonah and The Big Fish because God told Jonah to go to Ninevah and preach to the citizens there, but since he feared Ninevah because of it’s rivalry with Israel he ran the other way. When he tried to turn away from his fear, it only got worse with a big storm that resulted in Jonah being thrown off of the boat he was on and swallowed by a big fish. Although, when he finally turned to God and accepted what he feared to do, things got much better.
