That would allow for the 12:1:1 programs to stay in their current model (a k-2, 3-4 and 5-6). A 4-6 or 4-7 building might make this more difficult. It also allows for the current looping model to stay in place which (in my opinion) is a HUGE benefit. I would be really heartbroken to see that go away. A less popular opinion of mine is related to departmentalization in 5th/6th grade. The general consensus yesterday seemed to be against this. However- I see a benefit (again, for my kiddos). A lot of the attention or behavior issues that are expected when kids come to me in 5th grade seem to "work themselves out." because of the switching of classes. The ability to get up and move after each class, be with a new group of kids, etc actually seems to help some of them! Is it a difficult transition to 5th grade? YES. But it is just a different perspective. Perhaps switching for some classes in 5th grade would be a good in between model.
