Self-Reliant Fictional Character: Katniss Everdeen

Katniss Everdeen is a character of self-reliance due to the fact that she "has put her heart into [her] work and done [her] best" in every situation whether its nurturing her family through hunting for food, or emerging victorious in the Hunger Games because of her determination and sheer wit along with skill. Although she was placed in a horrendous predicament, she displayed her courage and was not a "coward fleeing before a revolution".

Song Influenced by Emerson: Shine by: Henry Rollins

This song is greatly influenced by Emerson in that this artist is as successful as he is today due to his own choices and bypassing what others presented to him as proven by the lyrics that "If I'd listen to everything that they said to me, I would not be here." Moreover, in his essay, Emerson accentuates how "Society everywhere is in conspiracy against the manhood of every one of its members" which shapes and forms Rollins ideals and morals resulting in the artist singing that "when you start to doubt yourself the real world will eat you alive" which is why you must rely solely on your own ethics, views, and speculations.

Great Person Misunderstood: Rosa Parks

Rosa Parks was misunderstood due to the reasoning that although others followed the social norms of society that whites were superior, thus resulting in the mistreatment of black people through racist laws, such as blacks must sit in the back of the bus, she aided in improving these rights for African Americans by rebelling and sitting in the front of the bus. This act of dissent and civil disobedience put others in awe due to the turmoil it spawned, and also altered the amount of rights that African Americans would receive which others could not comprehend or appreciate.

Could a Society of Individualists Exist?

I do not believe that a society of individualists could exist, since none of these individuals would thrive. This is on account of a few obstacles such as the economy would not be nearly as prosperous because of how each individual would not trade or buy from others, ignoring the capitalist ideals the prove our economy profitable. They would rather solely attempt to be independent and self-reliant. Furthermore, if one received a sickness or injury, it would be difficult to heal oneself, especially with an injury, fatal disease or lack of energy. These concepts and many others prove why individualists would not be able to exist as a society.
