Mapping Authentic Leadership

1) THE WILD WEST
I read pages 170-171 in one of our assigned texts, The Practice of Adaptive Leadership, and it briefly details leadership development. What I think will be the most exciting is me being able to be myself; I’ve always only had myself, and I have been shaped by my experiences with other people and within organizations. My experiences have shaped me into an Authentic Person—I would’ve said that my experiences have shaped me into an Authentic Leader, but I’m taking things one step at a time. Although capable, and although in my future it [leadership] is destined to occur, I’m just living life because power isn’t my ultimate goal. Instead I just desire the natural arrival of things and to establish sincere connections. With that being said, I think that my laissez-faire approach could possibly be a challenge. A laissez-faire challenge could look like/appear like/be mistaken as me not caring (when in reality I really do).

2) WONDERS OF MY WORLD
My sources of inspiration are simply: nature. My visual cue will be a rainbow that I took a picture of (as the passenger) while my husband drove us to our new destination and home.

3) UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Nothing. I am always open to growth but in comparing who I was ten years ago verses who I am now, I can attest that I’ve developed and grown a lot. My past experiences have been key—such experiences have shaped my interactions with others (in a positive way).

4) PILLARS OF THE COMMUNITY
I’ve learned about a lot, but my favorite (because I relate to it most) is Authentic Leadership. “Authenticity has been explored throughout history, from Greek philosophers to the work of Shakespeare “To thy own self be true.” –Polonius, Hamlet)…Authentic leaders are self-aware and genuine, mission driven and focused on results, lead with their heart, and focus on the long-term” (Kruse, 2013, para.2-6).

5) UNIQUE DESTINATIONS
Pain, struggle, and heartache; these also shape leadership in a major way. Experiencing these things serve as a continuous reminder of how I’d never ever want to treat others.

6) NAVIGATIONAL TOOLS
I now have the academic information and resources. Taking courses such as MBA501 and MBA502 have been extremely effective, and I’ve enjoyed reading all of the required texts but my favorites have been: Conscious Capitalism and Start With Why.

References
Kruse, K. (2013). What Is Authentic Leadership. Retrieved from https://www.forbes.com/sites/kevinkruse/2013/05/12/what-is-authentic-leadership/#5b2b4125def7
