Covid 19 has turned many things upside down, one of them being the social aspect of education. Everyone has been forced to work or learn remotely. This has required students and teachers to develop a new skill set and adapt. However, many kids are left behind due to this pandemic. Some dont have access to the internet, a computer, or other resources their classmates may have. This is widening the gap of those who are privileged and the many who aren't. Not only are many finding external factors that are holding them back; there is a battle going on inside educators and students. Many have been isolated from family, and friends causing loneliness. The economy went into recession and a general worry about everyone's health. Due to all the stress and anxiety, there has been a mental health pandemic as well.

My Experience:
I have personally suffered from the social effects of covid 19. Having online school has affected my work ethic and attention span. I am a very outgoing and collaborative person which wasn't an option with online school.

Prompt:
Have you faced any problems socially with the pandemic?

Due to the pandemic, many institutions have had to be innovative in relation to educating their students. Many have adopted a "hybrid" approach to learning where the class is held in person some days and online others. There has been a huge increase in the use of learning technologies such as zoom, skype, Webex, but also interactive platforms like google drive, and Microsoft teams. This has gotten faculty to begin adopting new practices and more modern ways of teaching.

My Experience:
I have never used an online platform for education. It has been very eye-opening and a learning curve. With the platforms, they all offer their own challenges. The biggest issue I have faced is internet connectivity.

Prompt:
What are your thoughts on online educational platforms?

There has been a decline in higher education funding as a result of Covid 19. This has already been a longstanding issue that the pandemic has dug an even greater hole for universities. Many are questioning if online education is worth full tuition or if the quality of learning is to the extent of what it used to be. Because there was such a dramatic shift in life there is now a new demand for different skills. Schools are on the hunt for capable educators who can adapt to the current time. The worst part about this all is there are no right or wrong answers. No one really knows what the future holds and how the economy will recover.

My Experience:
I think online education is a scam. I didn't get the quality of education as in-person classes. It is insane that we had to continue to pay the same tuition when I wasn't on campus nor has the same opportunities.

Prompt:
How do you feel about tuition costs in regards to in-person or online classes?

Climate change is persistent and continuing to worsen. Many schools have faced the consequences such as flooding, fires, and droughts. While these things are terrible there is a silver lining; there is a great opportunity for research and further understanding of how to cope with the changing environment. The pandemic has brought up environmental waste and social inequalities. For the first time in a while, we have seen aggressive demands for government action. This can continue in the future in regards to the environment.

My Experience:
I will admit I am not properly educated in climate change. I agree that this is an amazing opportunity for schools to create research programs. With the current social climate, I agree that climate change advocates can capitalize and gain real support.

Prompt:
Would you be interested in climate change research?

There has been a significant increase in online globalization in 2021. Since we were unable to meet face to face many resorted to online platforms to find connections. While there have been online globalization, in reality, there is a worldwide "deglobalization". Countries are cracking down on borders, trade, and military. In the United States, higher education relies on the government heavily for funding, especially due to the pandemic. It is beginning a discussion of is the value of higher education worth the price.

My Experience:
I have definitely seen an increase in online engagement. With this, I think it has affected many's mental health. Everyone has been checking social media more comparing their lives to others.

Prompt:
Has your mental health ever suffered from social media and more online engagement?
