In our March activity, we conducted an interactive reading to support children's empathy and respect for differences. The book we read was Whoever You Are.The book Whoever You Are by Mem Fox is a story that teaches children about shared human values despite differences. The book explains that children around the world may look different, speak different languages, and live different lives, but they all share the same feelings such as love, happiness, and sadness. It presents important concepts like empathy, respect, and valuing diversity in a simple and meaningful way for children.Through this interactive reading, our students realized that they can play and connect with children from all around the world. They discovered that even if someone looks different or speaks a different language, everyone has feelings and can build friendships.

Within this activity, students expressed through drawing the moments they played their favorite game with their favorite friends, aiming to concretize the concept of friendship and explore the importance of social relationships. By sharing their drawings with classmates, children had the opportunity to both express themselves and listen to the experiences of others.

This process supports the following learning outcomes:

Social-Emotional Development: Children recognized the value of friendship, enhancing their empathy and cooperation skills.
Communication Skills: Through narrating their own experiences and listening to those of others, children strengthened their verbal expression abilities.
Creativity and Representational Skills: By representing their play experiences through drawings, children engaged symbolic thinking and visual communication skills.
Personal and Social Awareness: Children observed how their individual preferences and friendships are situated within a social context.

This activity reflects an experiential learning approach that holistically contributes to the development of both individual and social competencies in students.

In our March activities, we focused on making friends from different cultures and the concept of friendship. We talked about the universality of friendship and reinforced it through various activities. We discussed that being a child is the same no matter where we are in the world, and that children everywhere experience the same feelings such as sadness, joy, happiness, and excitement, just like them. We also talked about how a gift that makes you happy can also make children in other parts of the world happy. We developed empathy.

We listened to a story about a six-year-old giraffe who asks for help from other animals who are also six years old. Even though they are not giraffes, the giraffe learns that they experience challenges similar to its own. After this enjoyable story, we talked about how children around the world may look different, but they can experience the same feelings and challenges as we do.

In our March activity, we started with a brainstorming session on the question, “What is friendship?” Children shared their ideas and expressed their thoughts about being a good friend.

After the discussion, we read the storybook Bir Dostluk Masalı. Through this story, children explored the meaning of friendship and understood the importance of kindness, sharing, and empathy.

We also talked about how they can build friendships with children from different countries and cultures. They realized that even if children live in different parts of the world, they can still become friends and share similar feelings.

As a follow-up activity, students drew pictures reflecting their understanding of friendship and their ideas about making friends around the world. We created a classroom board by displaying their drawings, which helped them express their thoughts creatively and strengthened their sense of belonging.

This activity supported children’s social-emotional development, communication skills, and creativity while helping them understand that friendship is a universal value.

We got to know the Tulip Festival closely, which shows us the arrival of spring in April. This presentation is designed to introduce children to tulips, one of the most beautiful symbols of spring, and the Tulip Festival. It begins by explaining the parts of a tulip, helping children become familiar with plants in a simple and engaging way. It then describes where tulips grow, especially how they can be found together in large numbers in parks and gardens in Istanbul.

The activity began with a brainstorming session centered around the word “friendship.” The children were encouraged to share their ideas, thoughts, and feelings about what it means to be a good friend, how they can show kindness, and why friendship is important in their daily lives. This open discussion helped them develop their communication skills and understand values such as empathy, respect, and cooperation.

Following the brainstorming, the children took part in a creative and interactive exercise. They painted their hands and, as they did so, repeated together a simple but meaningful pledge: “I can! I want to! I am friendly!” This moment reinforced positive behavior and self-confidence, while also creating a sense of unity within the group. The activity combined reflection, expression, and hands-on creativity, making the concept of friendship both tangible and memorable for the children.
