  • If the cancer is contained and small, one could undergo a colonoscopy to remove the polyp (a small piece of tissue forming inside ones body, typically in the colon or large intestine). This procedure is known as a polypectomy
  • Laparoscopic Surgery: procedure where polyps that cannot be removed in a colonoscopy. Here, surgeons insert attached cameras to monitor the inside of the abdominal wall
Advanced Cancer
  • With more advanced cancer, the surgeon can remove the portion of the colon that contains the cancer through a partial colectomy or laparoscopy.
  • Through a lymph node removal, the lymph nodes that are near the cancer or infected portion can be removed and tested.
Other Options
  • Chemotherapy: to destroy cancer cells, drugs are used after surgery if the cancer continued to spread, or shrink the cancer prior to the surgery. This prevents a recurrence of cancer
  • Radiation Therapy: By using x-rays or protons (Energy sources), cancer cells can be terminated or shrunk before a surgery. When a patient cannot undergo an operation, radiation therapy can be used to relax the symptoms and pain.
