In my school I believe that most effective would be step 6 - simple ways to reduce workload because I have noticed that most of my colleagues (and myself) feel frustrated and demotivated when we are given one more administrative task that doesn't seem to make any sense and helps anyone. I believe that, if we ever find some way to free the teachers of needless administration; that only will make huge difference for students and teachers well being. Step 1 - having a mental health lead for staff well being would also be a great improvement because we would have someone to talk to about all challenges we face daily that can influence our mental health.

I think we, as teachers, should be given some useful tools how to create wellbeing in our schools. As far as I can see schools in Poland lack these. We do not know how to be good for ourselves. We try to be good teachers, but a good teacher lives with the feeling of self-satisfaction. In my school teachers do not cooperate. Even if there is a small group of active ones, who try to do everthing that is in their mighty possibilites, there are still too many burnt out educators. Those are just to survive till they retire.

Indeed, in Greece we are still quite far from the concept of well-being, at least for teachers. Substantial changes are needed and, above all, a change in the way of thinking, I think, of the whole society and political leadership. We throw all the attention to the students (normal) but we forget to "take care" of the teachers. Perhaps, there are some isolated movements, internally, by some schools, to strengthen the team spirit for example, but not something organized by the Ministry of Education. Reading all these surveys, I really "envy" the way of acting in schools abroad. It is necessary to take initiatives to improve the position of teachers, which, in recent years, has become worse, mainly due to the economic crisis we went through, the pandemic and the attitude of the Greek society and families towards teachers

In Cyprus we have the opportunity to participate in educational seminars promoting and enhancing our lessons and to support our students well-being. But unfortunately nothing is there for the well-being of teachers. We deal with students, parents , colleagues, school stakeholders and undergo so much pressure. There is also the phenomenon of Teachers burnout. But unfortunately there is nothing out there for the teachers well-being.

I believe it is important to have opportunities for us teachers to have safe-place for us to talk about our everyday work related challenges and seek guidance, mental health personal for support.

But also to build strong relationship with our fellow colleagues and have social interaction outside work.

Here are several strategies that can be implemented:

   - Offer well-being programs and workshops for staff to provide them with tools and resources to manage stress, enhance resilience, and promote mental health.

   - Foster a supportive leadership culture that values and prioritizes the well-being of staff. Encourage open communication and create a safe space for staff to express concerns or seek assistance when needed.

   - Implement flexible work arrangements where feasible, allowing staff to balance personal and professional responsibilities. This could include options for flexible working hours, remote work, or compressed workweeks.

   - Recognize and appreciate the efforts of staff regularly. Acknowledge their contributions to the school community through public recognition, awards, or appreciation events. Feeling valued and appreciated contributes positively to well-being.

   - Provide opportunities for professional development that align with staff interests and career goals. This can contribute to a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction, positively impacting overall well-being.

     - Clearly communicate expectations and responsibilities, helping to reduce stress and ambiguity.

   - Involve staff in decision-making processes related to school policies, programs, and initiatives. This collaborative approach can foster a sense of ownership and investment in the school community.

   - Create a physically and psychologically healthy work environment. Ensure that workspaces are comfortable, well-lit, and conducive to productivity. Address any issues related to workload, bullying, or harassment promptly.

    - Conduct regular check-ins with staff to assess their well-being, both formally and informally. Provide opportunities for staff to share feedback and suggest improvements to enhance the overall work experience.

By implementing a comprehensive well-being strategy that addresses the physical, mental, and social aspects of staff members' lives, schools can create a positive and supportive working environment that benefits both educators and the students they serve.

Sometimes I feel overwhelmed by everything that I have to do at school - I not only have to be a teacher, I also have to be an administrator, a pedagoge, a mum, a psychologist, a defectologist...and so much more. What I also lack is the support when there are students with problems in their behaviour - I, as a teacher, can talk to them, try to explain the material that I teach, but I really do not know what to do when they become violent, rude, etc. Maybe it would be a great idea to have someone at school or my community for us teachers - to talk about the problems that we have in our classrooms. For the time being, the only option is to bare with it.

The concept of well-being, especially for teachers, remains a distant goal. There is an urgent need for significant changes, particularly in the mindset of society as a whole and the political leadership. While considerable attention is paid to students, the well-being of teachers is often neglected. Some schools are promoting internal efforts in this area, such as fostering team spirit, but there is still a long way to go to cover all schools and all teachers.

I believe that we must address this issue thoroughly to avoid the isolation and lack of understanding that is created at school, not only with students, but also between teachers. Although it is a very recurring topic today, we are still very far from treating it scientifically in schools and with guarantees of obtaining good results.

Which would be ideal for me.

1.Reduce administrative tasks unnecessary meetings.

2. Use IT supports such as the padlet here, and Learning apps to exchange and build exchanges and projects on working apps.

3.Develop training concepts like yours in mother tongues because many teachers still have a language barrier. Bravo for this training which allows us to enrich ourselves by thinking and exchanging our points of view, questioning beyond our borders.

4.Offer well-being training that is concrete and easy to implement, for example synchronously.

5.Offer sessions and visit exemplary educational systems in the field of well-being and positive education such as the Icelandic or Finnish system, or even a school system that works in this way in our country or region.

6. Reduce school management tasks which are often added to teaching functions: yard supervision, distribution of meals, care for the injured, supervision of school entrances and exits and ensuring that the lunch break is respected and allows teachers to discuss and take breaks.

7.Budget management and priority: allocate budgets for the purchase of furniture or adaptation to the flexibility of classes and work with students.

8. Establish pleasant relaxation areas for both staff and students, which would make breaks more pleasant and relaxed.

9.Organize exchanges and communication so that all staff are valued on a daily basis: from the maintenance man to the secretary to the head of the establishment and that everyone is recognized and respected in their functions and his demands.

10. Time must be devoted regularly, such as once a month, to a theme to carry out an action or an effort and then celebrate the result. Ritualize the event and extend it to the entire school and end with a joyful promotion of talents of school is a measure that would be rewarding for everyone.

11.Give visibility to beautiful and good deeds.

12. Paying attention to others, through small, simple gestures of recognition, does good and helps us in the team to do this in turn to others.

Next concrete steps are coming.

1.2.6.7.8.Our new principal revisited and is working with offices to modify this and revisit budgets to take into account the comfort of spaces and the flexibility of teaching, the purchase of suitable IT equipment, and recruit staff to reduce the burden on existing staff.

3. I love your training concept and I encourage my colleagues to join it but I would like it to also be like this in French for those who are less gifted in language.

4.5.I am going to study the Icelandic school system in February and I am taking with me my special needs colleague and a kindergarten colleague to disseminate our knowledge and experience upon return to all our colleagues. In April another team will leave to discover the Finnish system and we will continue our wellbeeing approach by sharing with them. At the same time we are following training in our country between teachers from the same school area.

9.10. Setting up assemblies and time of recognition and congratulations with all the staff and children of the school. Our entire school community meets every month. We take stock of the good actions of the period and encourage each other to progress on new themes the following period. We have organized our crews like Harry Potter houses and good deeds earn the crews points and the best crew of the month holds a trophy until the next assembly. We also meet regularly to celebrate the school's talents and applaud them; everyone can participate as they wish, including parents. And this creates a beautiful, caring community.

11. School class actions, crews, collective projects are promoted on the school website (facebook, blog) and encouraged by likes from the school and local community.

12.My new principal starts by setting an example: he is welcoming to each category of staff, each child is heard, and families and their representatives are considered partners and listened to. In our classes we implement listening and kindness to all our partners and by teaching students where, when, and how to file their grievances. The practice of gratitude and encouragement in the team involves taking an interest in the functioning of other colleagues and opening up your practices and questions to your team.

The calendar holidays are once again celebrated together with the staff and more and more people are present; at Christmas each adult had a small card and a personal message of thanks and encouragement in their locker and to start the year a surprise cake awaited us in our common place. We feel valued and we give back more easily.

While I was reading the Anna Freud Fondation ideas I thought that each one is necessary and we should start immediatly to change everything, then I took a deep breath... Considering the starting condition of italian school, where the teachers' well-being isn't an item if I want to change something I have to be practical and think straight: "What can I actually change in my school?"

The easiest steps are the ninth (introduce an annual survey) and the seventh (create a physical space for teachers). In my school there are many empty classrooms and one of them could become a place where teachers can relax and have a moment for themselves.

We really need support and supervision from the system but this is a thing that I can't change right now. I don't want to complain anymore, because this is a big challenge and the only thing that I can do now is start with baby steps.

First of all, teachers and students should be informed about "welfare". Because many people define the concept of prosperity as just being financially well-off. Afterwards, studies on this issue should be carried out, with teachers being the priority, and areas should be created in schools. There should be areas where teachers can relax in negative moments. If teachers feel good, it will reflect positively on the students, and the students can feel good, too. Afterwards, the same studies should be done for students as well.

There are teachers who are willing to work, do projects, and contribute to the well-being of students, but they are very few... I hope that a positive change will begin in our country, where the standard of living is decreasing day by day. . With more willing educators, we can focus more on well-being issues at school. When I look at the list, I think these are the two items we can do in our school. 1) Set up a staff social group 2) Start an annual staff wellbeing survey.

I've worked in some challenging schools where discipline issues were common and teachers did their best under constant pressure. Despite these difficulties, the mutual support among teachers was our anchor, keeping us standing tall. Recognizing the importance of this support, I believe two key strategies can promote teacher well-being:

Participating in non-work related activities with colleagues fosters connection and helps us de-stress. I've seen firsthand how shared hobbies and social interactions build resilience and bring renewed energy to our work.

Having a dedicated, comfortable space within the school where staff can unwind is crucial. Lunch breaks and free periods serve as essential moments for us to recharge and gather energy. Providing a designated relaxation area would further enhance this aspect of well-being.

Given the responsibility of teachers for the well-being of students, it is important to promote the well-being of teachers themselves. This is possible by creating a positive working environment in which teachers' job satisfaction increases. Furthermore, in this way the atmosphere in the classroom is also positively influenced and it is possible to improve relationships and therefore the students' learning opportunities.

It is therefore necessary to take care of these three elements, a positive relationship with the employer which should reward and enhance the employee and a good relationship with the students' children and which should always be based on a positive social climate and positive reinforcement from the parents that they should show their respect, positive feedback and help the teacher by actively collaborating

My institution has been struggling with financial issues, so I would focus on TWO practices which I believe could be cost-effective or low-cost alternatives. First, organizing weekly meet-ups over coffee/breakfast to to get to know each other and chat informally. Such informal gatherings are important to build and boost the institutional culture and the common purpose shared by the employees. Or maybe organizing social events of some kind (group walks, climbing, yoga in the park). Secondly, setting up comfortable designated spaces on the premises where staff members can take time out if needed. Our work can be overwhelming and having such spaces where employees would feel safe and can wind down would benefit our well-being.

Not that I have not heard of them or that I do not understand them, but because in my school/country nobody mentions or takes them into perspective.

Some of them are extremely difficult to achieve (e.g. no. 10 - an agenda item at staff and governor meetings), others are utopian in my country (e.g. no. 1 - a staff mental health lead or champion who is responsible for coordinating the school’s approach to staff mental wellbeing) but others are simply humane and could be done with smaller effort. For example,

no. 6 - limiting emailing at evenings and weekends, to reduce stress and workload

no. 7 - creating a comfortable, dedicated physical space within the school where staff members can take time out.

I believe more in the bottom-up approach than the top-down one.

2) Reduce workload. These days people are crushed under a rule-driving policy without common sense. A workload check should precede every new or recurring measure. Give people some breathing space to take care of themselves and of others: this so important.

I think we should work more on it, and regularly also because as we have said we are all interlinked and staff and teachers’ well-being is reflected on students. I think that creating a permanent space to discuss about mental health and stress should be encouraged as well as receiving advice and been taught useful techniques to overcome it.

There were some workshops (because we had COVID and earthquakes at the same time) like "Creative relaxation techniques for children and adults" and also, kindergarten employs psychologyst who works with children, parents or teachers in the events of crisas (death in family, divorce, severe illness etc.) But there is no systematic concern for the well-being of all participants involved in the educational process.

So I think we should start with promoting openness about mental health - it is easy step, our psychologyst could manage it, and it is important to raise awareness about mental healt among teachers as well.

Also performing simple steps to reduce workload could be managed immediatly.

Annual staff wellbeing survey should be conducted to deliver proper wellbeing policy.

Mateja, Croatia

We are so focused on students' needs, students' well-being. In my school there are some good practices aiming at teachers' well-being, such as providing reflective spaces for staff twice a month, setting up a staff social group. Anyway, I think that we can do more. I like the idea to start the annual year with a staff wellbeing survey. I love the statement "Look at simple ways to reduce workload". We can try.

However we apply some, eg. discussion groups. In micro teams we share information, experiences about student-related issues. Being a religious school, we have a school priest as a „representative” of the supportive service. Once or twice a year the headmaster organises outside school activities for the staff to build relations.

I would find it important to start an annual staff wellbeing survey based on which our school could work out our wellbeing policy. Moreover it would also be important to reduce work load somehow (eg. part of administration) and to provide reflective spaces for staff eg. a „chill room / a safe place”

Nowadays the welfare of teachers is very important.

In Greece there is not much emphasis on this. The institution of the mentor has recently been established, which could be used, apart from supporting young colleagues in their teaching work, to coordinate actions for the benefit of the well-being of all staff. In general, a new culture needs to be formed, that we are all one team, where we all need to work more systematically to strengthen it. Of course, the state must support this, so that in addition to training, it must also take care of the broader empowerment of human resources. The existence of a psychologist-counsellor in schools is essential!

I consider that the well-being of students, teachers and other school staff is now starting to be taken into account. In our school, the boarding team has shared a well-being questionnaire for students, families, teachers and other school staff to know their opinions.

Mental health is very important, as we experience many challenges every day and sometimes we have to face up difficult situations with students or families. There are many factors that affect our lives, so it is very important to have quality time at school as we spend most part of the day in there.

During this sessions I totally understand that welfare of students and the teachers is crucial, but I don't think it's that easy to change things in practice. In our country, psychological health and support is still a very prejudiced situation. First of all, it is necessary to break this prejudice and inform people about wellbeing. Therefore I'll choose;

the third option about promoting openness about mental health.

signpost staff to supportive services in order to make awareness regarding the wellbeing issue.

It's hard to balance teachers' environment I believe. Some teachers are eager to communicate, participate and share ideas. Others are afraid of their reputation and protect their knowledge.

Teachers reflect the society, teachers represent the product of the society.

I don't believe in mutual support and common feeling of well-being.

Freedom for teachers is important. We are artists and as artists we believe in our uniqueness.

I think school has to give teachers the possibility to balance their life through flexible hours of work (not classes, but preparation, works' assessments, etc). School authorities should give teachers opportunities to increase their profession levels, take part in conferences, seminars, workshops which bring the diversity into the routine.

Some common parties and events are good elements to see each other.

I don't expect everyone cares about everyone. It's impossible, but it's crucial to be respected and listened to.

I believe fostering a positive work environment is crucial for staff well-being. Implementing regular wellness programs, encouraging open communication, and providing professional development opportunities can contribute to a healthier and more motivated staff. Feedback on these ideas would be valuable for refining our approach
