Username: GreatD
I am the Great Depression, the worst economic downturn in history. I will only be around for 10 years, but I will cause great pain and destruction. I was born in October 1929 when a panic on Wall Street wiped out millions of investors. Consumer spending and investment dropped dramatically. Businesses failed, workers were fired. The lowest point was in 1933, 15 million Americans were unemployed and nearly half the banks had failed. My end will come in 1939, the start of World War 2. The U.S. ramps up to support our allies and then enters WW2 in 1941. This increases factory production and creates jobs for all.
