Some of the old cathedrals were made of brick or mortar, which is sort of like an old form of cement. The money to pay for the cathedrals came from the people's payments that were made to the Roman Catholic Church. Workers of Medieval Times worked with some of the most basic tools of mankind. The reason that they continued to work with such low quality tools was because they knew that their outcome would satisfy them and more importantly God. The average cathedral took around 600 years to make because there wasn’t many advanced tools, or knowledge.
